hey guys, I installed a front set of hawk brake pads this afternoon and only two of the hawk pads had the clips on edge of them. The four oem pads that came off ALL had the clips on them.....does it matter if the small spring clips are not utilized? Thanks

hmm, i just finished my HPS install and my fronts all had the clips on them (inner and outer). i also noticed a big difference with the new pads versus my old pads; mainly that they upgraded the outer parts to where it eliminates the need for replacing the shims.

We might be talking about two different things. My OEM pads had a 1" long metal tang that stuck up from the outer side of the pad. At the end was a loop that a steel-spring tab from the caliper stuck through. That pulled the pad away from the rotor. The other end is actually the wear sensor. None of the aftermarket pads I've seen have had that metal tang on them, other than the OEM pads.
Are you thinking of the little clips around the shims that go between the pads and the pistons? Non OEM ones might be slightly different than the OEM shims. You can toss the ones that came with the Hawks and use the OEM shims if they have all retaining clips.

that is the thing, they basically moulded the new shim style onto the back of the pad itself, the OEM ones will not fit with those in place. as for the fronts, the HPS pads i got had these prongs on the end that had a small loop for the metal prong from the caliper to go into. here is a pic of what i was talking about

my old hawk HPS only had that prong for the outer pad, the inner did not have it. also these are a whole lot quieter than my old ones. no more hawk squeak i got use to with my old pads
