Default What is your choice for a good non-adjustable shock?

Title pretty much says it all.

I'm in the market for a good set of sport shocks, but I don't need the adjustability. Just a good, quality sport shock.

The only options I know of are KYB GR-2 and Tokico HP.

The Bilstein's are around $560 it seems and for that much I may as well just step up to Koni yellows at $800.

So in the $200-$400 range are there any other options?

I'm running on factory 04 springs and swaybars and just purchased 18x9 Rota G-Forces and Kumho Ecsta XS in 275/35/18 (it's the replacement for the soon to be discontinued MX's).

So KYB or Tokico? Or just plain old factory replacement?

I've never used the KYB yet, but the Tokico blue's have worked out great for an affordable strut set

I'm sure(not sure, but I'd bet.) Monroe sells a shock/strut for the Z.

they are a high quality product (sens-a-trac). but not exactly performance oriented.

I honestly think you might want to look into a Koni yellow. I know they are more $$ and adjustable...but just because its adjustable doesn't mean you have to adjust it. proven adjustable shock...but that's just

NAPAONLINE.COM HAS SENSE A TRAC. - I can vouch for their general quality...they are great shocks. I've installed a few hundred sets of these.

I considered just getting standard parts store replacements, but at that price I may as well just upgrade to Bilstein or Koni.

I'm satisfied with the way the car handles stock so I'm not in a big hurry to upgrade the suspension at all. That may change of course once I have 2 inches more rubber on the ground though.

My factory shocks are blown, so I just need decent replacements for now. Probably just go with the Tokico's unless I can find some decent used factory shocks with some miles left on them.

Might have missed it, but how many miles on car?

If your pleased w/ OE then go OE.
Sens-a-trac will give you the closest to OE IMO...I don't trust tokico. but I personally had good luck with KYB's on a miata. KYB is hit or miss IMO.

Bilstein is at least as good as Koni....to me they are different but relatively equal... (there's a reason they are the "performance shock" used on many nicer, high end vehicles.)

if you are seriously considering the yellows, might as well get the BC coilovers for $900ish, and yes there is a vendor selling them for that price, you just have to hunt it down in the vendor for sale section.

Very interesting read. Since I'm planning on staying with replacement springs (most likely the Hotchkis TVS setup) the Bilstein non-adjustables would probably be the perfect match for me. They are probably valved very well for near factory spring rates.

I ended up buying some used low mileage factory shocks today, by the way.

When I'm ready to upgrade I'll probably go with Bilstein non-adjustables.
