Ok, so I buy a set of 20mm spacers to get my wheels even with the fenders. Tooling down the highway I hit a low area and feel the right rear rub my fender. I know its not the spacer that caused this, I'm sure it has something to do with a bad spring, strut, shock...
It's an 06 with 30k, bought the car with 3k......any ideas would be greatly appreciated

The fact that you spaced the wheel out 30mm from where it was before is what caused it. The cars don't all come with the same alignment settings from the factory, and since tire sizes also vary (not all 275/40/18 are the same physical dimension for example), some cars will rub, others won't. It really is all the luck of the draw many times.
Your options that will absolutely work:
fit smaller spacers
roll the fenders
narrower tire
options that might work:
more negative camber (also affects toe, so do this carefully)
shorter height tire
lower springs - I put this in the "may" catergory, because while you will get a more negative rear camber, because they are lower, you may find yourself now hitting that rub limit more frequently

If you know someone local with a fender roller they will probably do it for cheap, but a shop will usually charge like $200. It's not hard, all they do is heat it up and roll it with the machine. Not more than an hours work.
