Default STRUT BAR QUESTIONS

I am interested in getting a lightweight strut bar-want to eliminate some
weight off of the front of the car-i heard the stock one is about 15lbs
and the weight is up pretty high. i have been looking at 3 different ones
GT spec dry carbon-about 3 lbs and looks pretty good
Okuyama Carbing aluminum-about 2.4-2.5 lbs nice bright silver finish
Circuit Sports dry carbon-i am assuming about the same as GT spec

i have seen prices of these from $250-350 any positive or negative input
would help.

I'm interested in a nice alternative as well. There are alot of knowledgable folks here so I'm sure someone will have a good option.

the strut tower bars won't perform any better than stock.

the difference is going to be in the weight and construction quality. the carbing or gtspec stb's are great choices. i like the carbing one bc it has a built in brace for the master cylinder

So the solid bar isn't any better then an adjustable bar? I read that the solid bars are stiffer being that they don't flex or lose stiffness because of the adjustable fittings.

hes right...there are always fatigue in joints.......flex, moments....etc..

a sweet solid welded bar...gusseted and all would be nice...

lol, you are not going to get any performance difference out of a different brace regardless of whether its solid, adjustable, made of pure kryptonite, etc. C'mon people...

Any difference is for show or a rather small weight reduction. I doubt the stock one weighs 15lbs, but it might be around 8-10lbs.

exactly - the stock bar works quite well, it's main downsides are that it is not all that attactive looking compared to some aftermarket units, and it's heavy. I can weigh mine today, it's currently off my car

I read about the master cylinder brace but do not understand how it is
possible in our application-there is a metal wall surrounding our master
cylinders with a black plastic cover on top-how can the brace get to it?
i know on other cars the bar would work but looking under my hood i
think it is a misprint for 350z's- i saw a picture of the carbing bar on
SPL parts and then did a search and one of the members had it sitting
standing up by a wall in his house-no brace attached to it.

My intentions are to lose weight as i mentioned in the beginning- i am
sure there are little differences in how the bar performs between stock
and aftermarket-i am trying to shave off another 100lbs between now and
next year- i have already lost about 120lbs already between wheels/tires
exhaust stuff and removing spare/rear stuff. I plan to get a lightweight
battery soon, remove rf seat for next track day, get lighter strut bar
and get an even lighter axle-back exhaust-possibly Motordyne shockwave.

my car is 5AT so the more weight lost the better to help my performance
on the track.

The other reason i started this thread was i wanted to avoid buying a
part of poor quality-curious if any other members had installed one or
more of these bars and had a problem with fit, or premature failure, etc...
i usually try to buy a part of good quality that is proven to work with
positive results-i would hate to buy something and not do proper research
and regret it.

we spend a ton of time on our website, doing our best to keep it with as many real life pics and honest descriptions - all ya gotta do is look

That was the brace installed on my own car - worked great, awesome quality. There is a notch in the sheetmetal that the brace fits right in, there is no trimming, etc needed at all to install it. The only reason I removed it is that it did not fit with my C West hood due to the large inward facing center scoop.

thanks for the input about the brace Z1, did you happen to weigh your
stock bar yet? did you notice an improvement with the brace against
the master cylinder? or is it just a marketing ploy to make us common
folk think something is better about it compared to other bars.

looks like i am almost sold on the carbing bar-just need to decide if
i want the carbon look bar or the silver is my deciding factor-the carbing
bar sounds like a good choice for function and weight savings-the gt spec
has more reviews from other members but is the most expensive, the
circuit sports has the most appealing price but not sure about quality
due to lack of reviews.

Hi Chris,

You can get the GTSpec bar for $300 in the group buy from xxxxxxxxx. I don't know if you were aware of that.

Correction... group buy from Z1!

Then we could be strut bar brothas!

maybe i will get lucky and hit bonus this month at work-then i could
afford it-if not maybe for x-mas present.
