Default Newb brake question

Why are 3000.00 brakes so much better then stock brakes? Don't they stop you just as well? How are they differnt?

on the street... they don't make any difference at all other than "bling-bling". OEM brakes will do just as good as big brakes for the one-time panic stop.

on the track, they make all the difference in the world; the OEM brakes will overheat after two or three hard stops while the big brakes will handle the heat better:
-- the larger rotor will dissipate heat faster
-- larger calipers allow for greater pad contact
-- two-piece rotors will help eliminate warping and cracking

ok...since I'll never be on the track...the only thing a set of 3000.00 brakes will be to me is a 3000.00 appearance mod..lol...i guess thats why people go the way of spray painting their calipers..for a faux big brake look

Thanks for clearing that up for me!

Don't get a Big Brake Kit if you don't go to the track. I don't either so I just got a pair of EBC Green Stuff Brake Pads for the front and wow. It cuts down the brake dust a lot. The car even stops faster because it has a higher grip.

Silent Killer, just to clear things up, only stickier tires will help one stop faster, espcially during a one-time panic stop. The larger rotors and calipers will only help maintain stopping distances over time by remaining cooler, longer, thus resisting heat induced fade.
