I would like to upgrade a 2003 Base to later model front Calipers (2006 and above I think have larger/better calipers, non-Brembo) What does it take to do this? Is is just a straight bolt on process? Are the rotors the same? Do you need to change the Master Cyl?

yes the later model years 'base' brakes have larger caliper / larger rotor - direct bolt-on

no need to change master cylinder!

 

direct bolt front , make sure you get the caliper mounts , and the rear , just change the mounts and rotors. The rear calipers are the same, i did this to my car before the BBk.

 

Thnx for the info. I will now start looking for Race pads for 2006+ calipers (any advice?) I run Carbotechs on my Brembos's today.

I'm thinkin about buying a 125K mile 2003 base model with a couple of dents and a bad clutch for about $7K from a friend, and turn it into a cheap Track-Only car. And maybe go to a full race car over time.

I plan to strip it out, add a roll cage, install a locking diff and lite flywheel/clutch, and move my current moded suspension from my street Z to this one, then take my street Z back to a near stock for daily-driver duty...

Then drive the shiate out of the nasty old Track-dog every chance I get

A 350Z buddy of mine who also tracks his car said that Hawk doesn't even make HP+ pads or better for the 06+ brakes. Which is why he went with CarboTech XP12.

I'll be trying the CarboTech's next. Which material would you suggest for road course use? Factory non-brembo brakes.

Sell the stock unneeded parts and get yourself a nice BBK , a full wilwood set is only $3k from

XP10 for most drivers in HPDE and some TT, XP12 if you are really driving very hard in TT or W2W.

Kinda depends on how sticky your tires are (full slicks vrs Rcomp vrs street tires) and if you are trying to save time by doing some serious threshold braking. I have a set of XP12 that I plan to run as a test this year with some Hankook slicks. But I normally run XP10 with Toyo RA1s in NASA TTB class and run in 3rd place in my region, so I am getting around pretty good and the brakes are not a problem, the driver is.

Note: The xp10 will last a little longer than the XP12 per the Carbotech support folks. So start with the XP10s and see how that works for you.

 

Yep, gonna sell all the OEM stuff...but I am cheap, so I will use the $3000 for track-time instead of a BBK

And I am gonna run in NASA Time Trials with it, and trying to build a TTC car, and stay OUT of TTB where my Grand Touring is now based on Mods/Points
