Default Lower Tunnel brace problem

Does anyone know what the Lower Tunnel Stay does? What I want to know is if I removed it would it affect the handling? It's number 28 on the manual picture (looks like a Stealth B-2 Bomber). It's in the lower left corner of the manual picture. Thank you for any help.

it's a chassis stiffener. why would you think about removing it ? we add things like that to make it even more stiffer....

Right, I understand that, but my exhaust is vibrating on it harshly. Even with spacers, it still rattles. I was just wondering if it would dramaticlly effect handling or anything?

so you are willing sacrifice structural rigidity over a bolt on POS exhaust ? that is RICE bro.

fix the exhaust.

protect gas tank and provide more structural rigidity.

play around with where the exhaust hangers are and the flanges where the exhaust cans and the midpipe line up. (even where it attaches to the cats), there typically is enough play in them to not hit that bar.

i'd definately fix an exhaust issue vs removing oem bracing.

I've tried loosening up all the parts and then moving them but still makes contacts over bumps. It all started after I changed out my cats, but they seem to be center. I agree with you with keeping the brace but what happened is I went up a bad drive-way and the brace bent. So basiclly I'm weighing buying a new brace or taking the broken one completely off.

if a bent brace is the problem, the new one is quite affordable... $133.73....

If you dont feel like adjusting the exhaust, put something in between the brace and where the exhaust would touch it. Just make sure whatever it is you put there is not going to catch fire from the heat.

now we have the whole story... if it was two undamaged parts and it was hitting that's one thing, but now you're just trying to find a work around for something u know you did bad.. you can take that piece off, goto a machine shop to see if they can repair it for less than $140...

I completely agree. I was just curious if this brace really does serve structual purposes as far as handling. I'm not gonna go cheap on the Z, I just wanted to know if I could solve two problems with the solution of just taking it off. Thats all

i had a greddy evo2 and no probs blake. try getting a bracket welded on the test pipes and maybe a new bracket/hanger on the exhaust to raise it up a bit. imho, removing a brace is the worst possible idea.

my evo2 has alot of clearance, even my aam 3" td's clear that

I took mine off last year just to experiment. IMO, car rides and handles better. No averse affects thus far. To each their own I guess.
