just had my brakes checked at the local nissan dealership @ 22000 miles. they are the stock 2007 pads they used. The results were 8mm front, and 9mm rear My question is what the heck does that mean? Is that how much pad is left? If so how much longer might I have to go?

Those should be the thickness that's left. You don't have to change them until they have only 2mm left.
