Default **Strange Noise From STANCE GR+** & Mini-Review

*****PROBLEM*****

Everything is running fine and handles great, but the Passenger Rear side seems to be making some strange noises.

It sounds like the shock releasing air over every medium-large sised bump I go over, followed by what sounds like a big clunk...
I have read stories on the clunking, but never the "whoosh" sound I am hearing. It's definitely only that one side, so i'm 99% sure it's installed properly.

To get a better perspective of what it sound like, think about when you close your hatch quickly and you hear the shocks that hold the hatch up compress. It is very similar to that, but more prominent, and in very short spurts.

I am guessing that the top nut may not be fully torqued (as mentioned on STANCE's website) but I am not sure, it's just an idea.

If anyone can shed any light on this problem, please feel free to post!

Thanks

EDIT: Solution on Post # 25!!!

*****Review*****

Well here's the story, I just bought these coilovers used from "MyFirst06350z", and installed them about a week and a half ago.
These are the Stance GR+ true-type Aluminum Body Coilovers, but with upgraded Swift Springs and Spring Rates, so they are supposed to be more comfortable and less jumpy while driving with these springs than the factory ones.

Adjustability:

Everything was tight and installed properly and I lowered the ride height as I wanted it. Set it to about -1 finger gap (tucking the tire about a centimeter or two), and let me tell you, it looks so much better already! Compared to the already aggressive drop of the previous Sportlines, these make a complete difference on the car.

I set the dampening to 15 clicks in front and 10 in the rear and it seems to be perfect for daily driving. Only problem is speed bumps, my sideskirts barely touch, but I can hear a little scraping happening.

My wheels are 19x9.5 F and 19x10.5 R, +17 all the way around and I have a mild fender cut in the rear, and still no rubbing. I'm planning on rolling and pulling the rear more so that I can get the offset to +12 all the way around again.

Overall, the adjustability is excellent! Two thumbs up!

Drivability:

Well, then comes the drive. The car is much more responsive than the previous Eibach Sportlines + Stock Struts I was previously running, and I am very pleased with the comfort and adjustability. I can take a fairly sharp turn at much greater speeds than before, and don't have to worry about the back end whipping out, or the body roll it used to have. It feels like it's on rails and it's near impossible to break loose. The only time the tires squeal is when cornering over road lines.

Overall, makes it feel like a completely different car!

Comfort:

I did mess around with the dampening and try both 1 click all the way around, as well as 15 clicks all the way around, and naturally, it was a huge difference between the two.

1 click felt like it had some more body roll, very similar to the stock ride but without as much bounciness. I'd probably only recommend that to someone who daily drives the car long distances.

15 clicks was much more harsh, but not unbearable. You can feel the road much more, and body roll is completely gone. Definitely would not DD the car this way, pretty bumpy, and somewhat aggravating especially if you've got the GF or Wife with you!

Comfortable when you need it to be, but can turn into a go-kart when necessary!

I would recommend STANCE Coilovers to anyone looking for high performance for a reasonable price!
If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them.

I'll post some before and after pics as soon as I wash the car. It's super dirty at the moment!

The woosh noise is normal for coilovers and the clunk well, not so much. But your car is dumped , so it could have to do with that.

That's what I heard, but it's only coming from one side...

No wayyy mang. I only weight 170 and it happens with and without passengers. Good thought though, but it still wouldn't justify it only being one coil.
I have a feeling it's the top locking nut or the preload. It's just so annoying to keep installing and uninstalling!!!

This might explain the whoosh noise:

And this might help with your rear noise?

i thought you were supposed to break them in by riding at the middle setting or damper adjustment and/or whatever height setting they come in at for a while. maybe due to a bad break in?

**UPDATE**

So I called STANCE yesterday and brought up my noise complaint with them, which I figured out is a very common the issue with the "defective upper pillowball mounts" on the older model coilovers, and they very graciously offered to send me the new and improved upper pillowball mounts found in the newer model STANCE coilovers.

They are very aware of the "clunking" and noisiness of the previous upper mounts on the old models, and will most likely send anyone a set of the new mounts if you are having problems with yours

I'm surprised no one else has posted up this info, but big props to STANCE for addressing the issue so willingly and sending out a FREE set of upper pillowball mounts (all I had to pay for is $10 shipping)

Just thought I should bring this good news to anyone having the sort of issues I described above!

Nice! The 295s will look sick and I bet you will have to pull/cut your fenders more.

They're already cut along the seam, but i'm going to have them rolled and pulled completely for maximum flushness
