Already got new pads and looking for new rotors. It looks like more people on here use stoptech but there also a little more expensive. I could save a little money and get r1concepts premium rotors. Read pretty good reviews about r1concepts except for one person on here who started thread about how they were bad. Any input is appreciated.

Ive also read you don't really want drilled unless tracking a lot so should I go with slotted? What about drilled/slotted?

r1concepts premium slotted I can get for $300.
Stoptech slotted would be around $450

 

Im running r1's there good havent had any problems but its really not fair to compare the two like comparing an altima and a Z. People say not to use drilled because they cant be cut they must be replaced but they last pretty long wouldnt even worry about it. Did there prices go up remember paying a lot less with pads included

 

not sure about the prices but it sounds like a pretty good deal to me, getting all 4 slotted premium rotors for $300otd. Got my hawk ceramic pads for $100otd so $400 otd for rotors/pads. I guess my main question is will I get a noticable difference in stopping power with r1 premium slotted over stock 03 touring rotors.

 

R1 Concepts/Stoptech rotors = same (Centric blanks) who was recently bought out by Stoptech i think.

Both companies use same exact blanks, then drill/slot in an almost identical process. Both have chamfered (if spelled right) holes if get drilled, only R1 uses diamond slots and Stoptech rounded ones. (Curve at end of slots).

Both are Zinc plated to prevent rust, and both (if premium R1's) come with painted hats.

Personally, i would go with R1 (what i chose) because of above facts and R1 is cheaper. If you go on Ebay, search for R1's ebay store and find a rotors auction were you can "Make an offer".

I got mine by making an offer for $40 less per rotor than they were asking...a SUPER f'ing deal man. They accepted and have held up on the car great so far.

 

Your statement above is completely wrong.

Its actually the exact opposite. Slotted/blank are better for tracking, drilled will crack under high temps/usage.

 

I've got R1 drilled/slotted on my fronts and they have held up great... quick warning tho, drilled rotors and hawk pads = squeek when coming to a complete stop, drives me nuts but its a small price to pay for the extra bite.

 

I have rotors from r1concept. Front rotors 35,836 miles and they just keep going.

 

so r1 slotted premiums all around with hawk ceramics all around will be a good match and nice upgrade from stock?

 

I have had my r1 rotors all-around for about 20k miles and they have not warped nor have I had any issues. I have the solid rotors (no slot, no drill). I have nothing but good things to say about r1. Although I think their prices went up since I purchased.

I gave up on ceramic pads a while ago. So I have the following pads - also with 20k miles:
Front - Performance Friction carbon-metallic, part#0526.20 (I think $50 online)
Rear - Morse Elite semi-metallic ($16 locally)

 

StopTech and R1 Concepts rotor blanks are not always the same.

StopTech are only made with either Centric Premium blanks or the New PowerAlloy blanks that have an iron formula more like our big brake kit rotors for improved crack resistance. Many PowerAlloy blanks also offer directional internal vanes for improved cooling where the regular premium blanks will have straight vanes (unless the car comes from the factory with directional vanes).

Centric has 3 separate rotor lines so knowing which type of blank is being used is improtant to find out, especially if you are planning on any kind of performance driving with drilled rotors. The 3 lines are economy, premium and PowerAlloy.

 

I contacted r1concepts and they told me there premium rotors use centric premium which I guess makes sense.

 

hmmm thats funny, I contacted them not too long ago and they say they don't. Well we all know both companies produce good stuff... your choice.

 

Going up there tomorrow to get my premium slotted all around with hawk ceramics installed, ill report back with how I like them

 

I've have R1 slotted rotors on the car for over a year so far and love them.

 

The economy and the premiums are what R1 uses. You know what your purchasing when you order, as the two are sold seperate in the the 2 respective different coined terms.

To my knowledge, R1 does not carry a rotor machined from the PowerAlloy series, so StopTech has the one-up on that.
