What is the difference between a true and untrue coil over? If a spring is over a damper this is a coil over correct?

when it comes to the 350z - since the z rear has a two separate mounting points for shock and spring from one another this forum has sorta labeled the oem split set up to be non true coilover AND then named a coilover at the shock rear location ONLY a true coilover.

ITS A PLAY ON WORDS - NOTHING TO TAKE TO HEART.

either way, the picture you posted is more a shock/spring combo or a oem strut with an aftermarket spring or what not.

I wouldnt consider that a coilover - as any good decent set of coilovers are FULLY adjustable.

notice how the picture you posted there is NO way to adjust height...and most likely no **** for dampening adjustment either.......we just can see the top in the pics..... but look at the link mysteryman posted:

1. you can turn the lower coilover body lug to adjust height
2. has adjustable spring rate - since the lower spring mount perch is adjustable with the funny spanner wrenches they provide you. see how there are two large adjustable perches to lock onto one another under the springs.
3. has adjustable dampening at the top - usually a turn ****.

to name a few...

thats after a breif search,..............its more you need to pick a price point/budget, then figure out the use for the coilovers and eliminate.

i think the op is refering to the rear spring being on the shock, in which case you can scratch a couple of those off your list. hks, tanabe, tein(iirc), ohlins.

you can add stance

HKS, Tanabe, Ohlins, all use OEM geometry (coil separate from spring)

I am already on Megan Racing Street Coilovers, I just looking around to see if there are any good true coilover setups that aren't ridiculously expensive

Stance GR+ (ask for true coilover in rear)... and i believe most of the Stance line can be had with a true rear coilover...

are you asking because you want to switch from the OEM configuration to a true coilover in the rear? if so, this thread may help you with your decision: https://my350z.com/forum/brakes-and-...er-or-not.html

I have the HKS Hypermax III's (non-sport version) and my rears are not a true coilover. My package came with true coilover fronts and a spring/shock for the rears. Is this because I got the non-sport version?

all HKS coilovers maintain the OEM geometry
