Check for visible oil leaks. Be prepared for a possible rebuild. Shouldn't cost too much since IIRC they use a Showa shock.

Assume the seller will clean the coil overs so you will not see potential oil residue. Unlike dampers, coil overs are impossible to push and pull so that simple test is out of the question.

Put your money on the table and roll the dice.

It is possible to push and pull on a coilover but it can get tedious. Take all preload off spring then remove the top metal thing (forgot the name of this) and the spring should come off easily. Then you can push and pull on it to see if it needs a rebuild or not.

The rears are not true coilovers so pushing and pulling is very simple

Plus, if the suspension is still on the car (I assume it is since the seller wants the stock shocks and springs) there's a good chance you will catch leaks.
