I need to replace my rack because of some play in it after a wreck I had 1.5 years ago. It's really annoying me and almost feels like it may be getting worse (although that could just be in my head). I was going to buy a new OEM one from a Nissan parts dealer for $435. I'd like to replace it myself... visually this looks simple and I looked in the FSM and it doesn't look too complicated. Has anyone done it and can describe how hard it was and what was involved?
I searched the forums and found one thread talking about it, sounds like I should flush the P/S fluid before doing this job to prevent contaminated fluid from getting in contact with the new rack.
I've done simple stuff like brake rotors/pads, drive belts, diff/trans fluid changes, and replaced control arm, outer tierod ends and sway bar endlinks, and my right steering knuckle/spindle and wheel bearing hub assemblies and that all wasn't too hard... Think this will be way more difficult?
