It doesn't matter how the slots face on the outside. What matters is how the inside venting is positioned. It should go from inside to out (i.e. if the front of the car is <---, the inner vents should be " / "). I'd assume the AP instructions would describe that. If not, check Brembo's website for their installation instructions. I've spoken to Brembo directly on this issue also and they confirmed what I stated above.

From Baer's website

"Externally modified Baer rotors employ a REVERSE SLOT or a REVERSE SLOT & DRILL pattern. This is current racecar practice and lowers the potential for "carbon smearing" or "transfer" from the pad material to the trailing side of the slots on the rotor. This is important because in some cases this "smearing" actually affects the rotational balance of the rotor and can cause a "shake" or "nibble" while braking."

Most two-piece rotors that I have seen have directional vanes going in opposite direction of the slot - thus if the vanes are positiones properly for airflow then the slots will go in what appeasrs to be reverse direction. While I have no data to back it up the only difference between the two directions is the angle and direction at which the edges of the slot cut across the pad.

It doesn't make sense to me. The internal vanes should always lean toward the back of the car at the top of the rotor. And the external slotting should always be machined OPPOSITE to the direction of the internal vanes so that the slots are supported. If you slot the rotor in the same direction as the internal vanes, you weaken it. So, assuming that the rotors are mounted per the instructions by Stillen, they are either slotted improperly or the internal vanes are NOT directional, meaning that it doesn't matter which way the slots face. If the former is the case, then the rotors are dangerously weakened by the improper machining. If the latter is the case, then the rotors don't have very good convective cooling.

I've had the AP Racing brakes for almost 3000 miles; and it stops on a dime everytime, whether it is first time out or after 5 over hours driving.

The other thing about the brake system is that they'll even accommodate my 18" stock rims.

Disc Handing

Most AP Racing Brake Discs feature Curved Vanes. The brake discs are handed and should be installed with the cooling vanes running back from the inside to outside diameters in the direction of rotation as indicated in the sketch.

I don't know myself if Stillen even uses AP disks, though they do use the calipers.

What pads do they provide? How did you break them in?

Eric,

My tech and I went over the problems you sent me and we strongly beleive that there was still air in the lines. Please call my tech to discuss. We will contact A/P on Monday after the conversation.

We just did 380 + miles on a road course with the same kits and had no problems. Brake fade like you expereinced in air in the lines or a long time on the brake pedal increasing the heat. The A/P's to bleed is a little more work.

Again, please contact Jeff ( number via e-mail ) so we can determine a cause. The crew chief for our Gt-2 car also agrees that it sounds like air in the lines.

Regards

Eric,

We are working with A?p in Europe and sent them the data you sent them. Their race engineers have a few questions. Call me so I can pass this on.

Regards

So far Avalon and AP Racing have been excellent. They sent me new Calipers and pads and they are going to test the old ones to find out what happened and why they heated up so rapidly.

I just got the new calipers on, and i'm in the process fo breaking them in again. SO far they are excellent.
