Default Checking brake pad thickness

Read through a bunch of posts but couldn't find an answer. Is there a simple way to check pad thickness for wear. For instance, on my last ride a GTI, when you couldn't fit two pennies between the backing and the disc the pads needed to be replaced. Anything similar on the 350?

Visual is the easy way - you can look through the caliper to see the pads. Take a small mirror and position it between the spokes of your wheels and estimate how much is left. I believe factory thickness is 8 and 11 mm (depends on type and F/R) with a minimum thickness of 2mm.

No mirror - then you'll have to remove the wheels and check them visually that way.

You can look in the window. You can eyeball 2 mm. Bedsides I don't worry about it until I hit the audible wear clip.
