I decided to change my rear brake pads a few days ago and was a little bit concerned about what I found with the pads on the passenger side.

There seems to be about a 1/4" raised lip on the outside edge of the pad where it looks like the pad was never in contact with the rotor. It seems like the caliper is mounted too far out off the rotor, but I don't see any way of adjusting the caliper in any direction.

The driver side wear looks fine, the pad is evenly worn and the rotor seems fine. On the passenger side its obvious that the rotor is rusted towards the center where there should be wear from the pad.

That is unusual. The pad-rotor is designed for 100 percent contact. This brake is operating at less than optimal performance.

I think you should remove the wheel, then caliper entirely, make sure its mounted correctly.

I'm at 53k, just had my engine replaced about 8k ago under powertrain warranty. Are brakes still covered?

What brand of pads are u using? I have a lip from the brakes wear on the outer lip of the rotors about half that in your pics & I have no braking problems. Best to pull the wheels off and check the calipers and pads to insure they are fully in the calipers. Good ruck

Doubt it. What do you want the warranty to fix? Wrong brake pad. Improper pad installation?

I think it may be more serious than an improper pad installation. The pads I took off were the original pads for the car and we're most likely not installed improperly at the factory. I installed new pads and can already see the same problem occurring on the passenger side, while the driver side is still fine.

The mounting position of the caliper itself seems to be the problem. I don't see any way of adjusting the position of the caliper, so if something was assembled incorrectly I would hope that the warranty would cover that.

Sounds reasonable. Calliper position is fixed. Have Nissan take a look see.

Its the rotor, you have an 06 and newer car and that one rotor is an 03 to 05 SMALLER rotor. I'll also be the unused part of the pad is 1/2 inch.

This sound right.. I wasn't aware of the difference in rotor size betweek 05 - 06, but.. there you go. Looks like wrong rotor.

Great resolution. I had the same problem years ago on my 1st 240Z, seems the rotors like yours changed over the years.
