Default 53/47 weight split intentional!

This is an older article, so it may have been posted somewhere, but I found it interesting. Apologies if this is old news.

Most of us know that the Z is a little nose heavy with 53% of it's weight located in the front. Anyways, I found this article when researching weight reduction:

The 350Z enjoyed a well-balanced 53 percent/47 percent front-rear weight distribution. The engine's center of gravity was positioned behind the front wheel center, which had a positive effect on handling, ride quality and stability.

With the weight on the front wheels deliberately made 3 percent greater, the front wheels were preloaded when the driver steered into a curve. There was a natural weight transfer to the rear as the driver accelerated out of the curve, approximating a 50/50 front/rear split. Therefore, the front mid-ship layout gave the best of both worlds: superb cornering ability and acceleration performance.

Thoughts?

That was originally published in Lust, Then Love - The Story of the New Z by Ron Sessions published back in 2002. It's attributed to Nissan engineers, so yes, it's true.

That's probably not the weight distribution they were aiming for, but was as close as they could get. Marketing department took care of the rest.

^agree 100%

You can only do so much for a platform that is going to work will in other applications, like the G and FX.

Next they we'll read how they added weight to get to 3200lbs-3400lbs for handling and acceleration's sake

This is old news. It says this in the brochures at the dealerships.
