Default Parking "BRAKE" light always on

Walker here again,

Along with my last post on the VDC and SLIP lights I also had the issue of my parking BRAKE light staying lit continuously.

According to NISSAN in my situation the parking BRAKE light being on is due to a bad brake master cylinder. Now Nissan wants $638 to fix this. $400 for the part and the rest for labor. I have found the master cylinder new for anywhere between $161 and $250. Install time is approx 2.5 hours.

Hope this helps

Walker

fluid is low, which is often an indicator that your pads are in bad need of replacement

You have to figure if somebody looked at the MC, at a minimum they would have seen that the fluid was low. But you never can tell - it's worth a quick check.

the other thing to keep in mind, and why at a cursory look, I don't think it's a bad master, is the fact that you don't mention anything about the car not wanting to start, or stay started. The Master Cylinder represents the strongest vacuum in the car. If that diaphragm goes, the car literally won't start , or if it does, it won't stay running on it's own. FWIW, such pieces are not well known culprits on these cars, at least in my experience

OP..check the brake switch located on the brake pedal. It is a brown plastic casing. If this switch goes bad the brake lights will stay on.

He's talking about the dash indicator, not the brake lights...

OK...got it!! Then it is most likely the brake fluid level as stated above.
