Default Need the suspension heavy hitters to step in

Ok, i was at the shop the other day and there was a Z up on the rack. I was talking to a much more experiance person about suspension as we were looking at and the centered lockouts like Jason and SPL make came up.

He said it was foolish to run them centered, and depending on the sweep of the arms, mount points etc etc it would be more benificial to have them locked out full in or possibly full out.

We're going to throw my car up on a lift in a few weeks, remove rear spring so we can freely move the suspension and figure out whats best. Does anyone else have experiance with this? SPL, Bimmertech etc etc pleas throw in your 2 pennies.

the only way to know for sure would be to measure all 3(or all possible combinations if you want to include the camber bolts) bolt orientations effects via a bumpsteer gauge.

i really have no clue as i have not done that. my personal opinion is that it would not make a noticeable difference.

arm travel will not be affected--there is more than enough room.

The main reason i'm asking is that soon i will have a full set of adjustable arms and lockouts. But i was thinking of having offset lockouts made.

hes right, that pivot point is to far back, bumpsteer, etc would be minimal affect at either location in the "doctors pill"........also the toe arm mount point is close to centerline of the axle center on that plain..

the ideal location is the center, and the doctors pill rotation of the eccentric washers is the allotted allowable change by design...

cant chat now, brb...

Jason's got the right idea, it depends what your looking for in the travel, and "active" travel or a "passive" travel through the range. A really basic generalization is the longer the linkage the less change through the range of travel, and the shorter the linkage the greater change through the range. Some people feel the "bump-steer" (don't like to use the term for the rear-end but it somewhat fits the best) generated is good, however some like greater consistancy of of less or no "bump-steer". I'm assuming you're referring to the camber lock out, in which case I'd be interested to see the actual angle change through-out the range of movement. Don't know if it is worth worrying about. I think SG Motorsports had a thread on the rear bump stop/angle changes a few months back.
