Default Clicking noise from rear axle

Two weeks ago I realized my 05 Z had the "clicking noise" coming from the rear axle. I decided to bring it to the Nissan dealership and the lubricated the axle for $180. The noise disappeared and I was happy. HOWEVER, a week later the clicking noise came back and I took it back to the dealership today. They told me this was the first time ever a customer returned with the same problem after they lubricated the axle. They lubricated my axle again (free of charge) and its fine once again. I'm just wondering has this happened to any of you guys? And any input on why the clicking noise came back?

I dont think so, most of the people who did it here did it there selves. They probably didn't put enough grease. Atleast they did it back for free.

Can you be more specific on that clicking noise? Is the noise consistent through out any speed? Only on cold start? I ask because I used to have a clicking noise too but only when I launch my car and I don't mean flooring it. Only when I gradually move my car from traffic light or something. So I took it to a dealer and told them to lubricate the axle splines and also clean out the rust on it. It's been about 30k+ miles since and never had the issue again.

I first didn't know what the sound was but after searching on this forum I found out it was common for the 350zs that the axles had to be relubricated. The noise only clicks when I first start gasing the car from a complete stop and sometimes when I let go of the throttle. It also happens occassionally when I reverse also. The service writer told me no one ever had the problem come back again with the same issue and the best mechanic they have has been working on my car. weird?!

There is a TSB on the clicking axle issue. My Z developed a clicking axle couple of years ago and I had it taken care of for free at the dealership once I made them aware of the TSB. They greased everything and I haven't heard any noises since then. I was able to hear it when driving very slowly in 1st gear in forward or reverse.

Its just a noise, does no harm. I think the Z is one of the few cars the need grease on the axle splines to prevent noise, kinda odd.

Had the problem, took it to the dealership, guy said $150 bucks to grease the axles then if it still clicked they would replace some parts for another 300 -400, out of my pocket. Took it back 6 months later when the clickeing really started to bother me, talked to another service guy, asked him to grease the axles, he said he would have to charge me or else he could replace the parts under warrenty. Beautiful! problem solved. keep checking around until a dealership will do it under warrenty.

If the car is out of warranty - no dealer will ever be able to do it under warranty.

Correct.

When you have the 350Z worked on, be prepared with a little bit of knowledge. No need to be a mechanic. 5 minutes of research may save you from throwing your money away.
