Can anyone tell me how to remove the little cone on ball joint part of the compression rod?

Does it Pop off or twist off?

I think I read somewhere that it's reusable if you replace your compression rod with a new one

 

It is popped off... with a hydraulic press usually. I took mine off with a vice. If you use this method be careful because when it snaps off it can fly pretty fast. Wear safety glasses or certainly don't look toward it when it snaps.
