Shock/Spring combo OR cheap coilovers
Hey guys...I have a bone stock '08 Z, and im looking to start on modding the suspension before I get my wheels (idk which yet btw ) so I know how much room I got to play with..well, anyways I've been doing a bunch of research lately.. At first I was looking at just getting lowering springs on stock shocks (31k), but then I saw people saying how its a lot better to get a set of coilovers instead since it would be worth it for various reasons even though more money..im not looking to track the car but im also not trying to compromise the Zs handling too much just for an aggressive low drop, which is what I want it for mainly.. keep in mind im also on a budget..I was looking to spend no more than like 1200ish...then I started doing some more thread searching on coilovers n' saw a few ppl talking about some of the coilovers in my price range like the tokicos d specs, stance gr+, bc racing coilovers, etc; n they said those coilovers aren't worth it because they "suck" .. I forgot their reasons...they were saying to just get a nicer pair of shocks/springs so I actually do a legit upgrade in performance...that's y im confused because the threads of ppl getting lowering springs and or shocks they say get the cheaper coils...then the threads talking about coilovers they say to invest on just really good spring/shock combo instead for like 1300..help me please. The Z is my daily

Get lowering springs.
Ride quality will not change. You don't need coil-overs if you don't plan on driving the car aggressively. Do your research before you buy your springs first though. Aftermarket springs tend to wear the stock shocks out faster if not done properly.

Spring and Dspec will be a hell of a lot better than any coilover in your price range. The the shock part that counts the most, the shock on a $1k coilover is beyond garbage.
Best advice. I have the D-Spec shock and spring combo. I will not trade them for coilovers below $1200. I mean I love them. Huge difference
Honestly the stock shocks can handle aftermarket springs. I went with Eibach Sportlines on the stock shocks around 4 years ago and haven't had a problem. It handles awesome and dropped it at the height that I was looking for.

The Tokico D Spec is a great shock, but the HP shocks are a more affordable option. We're actually running a sale on Tanabe springs and we just started carrying Swift lowering springs! PM me if you have any questions.
btw, if you don't need the adjustability of the coilovers then don't spend the money. If you do need the adjustability, then don't buy cheap coilovers.

It just feels like all the cars with some lowering springs on dont have that tucked look when a car has some coilovers even if they're cheap..and isnt there a chance if i get some spring shock combo then when i order my wheels it might look bad cuz i cant adjust the height?
Dude just save up and get coils. Don't know why anyone would rather waste the time. IF your really that concerned with ride quality, take a ride in soeone elses car find out their set up to assuage ur fears about whether or not they will be shitty or not. I can assure you, done well, you won't be perturbed by many of the choices in your price range.

Look you are proud of being stock and that's well and awesome for you but please provide some definitive proof to the ma instead of just putting out baseless opinions. What experience do you have that has brought you to your stance on coilovers? My friend is getting some Kw Variants for about 1300 and they are an awesome ride. Could you honestly try to say that they are worse than the stock shock/spring combo?
IF i remember correctly, V1's..installed and all that jazz at a shop in Ft Laudy for 1500-1600 something.. Install cost is 300 therefore coils for 1300. Anyway, I just feel that stating an opinion without solid evidence is a waste of a post therefore why it angers me. Might have OP waste his money on springs for no reason especially if his goals are to get low.

Koni Yellow - $800-900 (less if used...make sure they don't leak from the rebound adjusters)
Front threaded perches - $100-150
Rear adjustbale perches - $100-400
Front upper strut mounts - $100-250
Eibach ERS Springs - $200-225 (rate of your choosing, but I'd do something like 500/400)
That is a strong entry level set-up.

1. Opinions should always be substantiated. Give a reason for feeling the way you do. That way you can sway others instead of just putting crap out there.
2. My definition of cheap coilovers was different than OPs, and most of yours. And I'm sorry for that but here is me substantiating my opinion. I guess it is what it is. but for 200 dollars more which could be gotten in a work week, you could get quality stuff which is in my version of the cheap range. Why jump in now when a lil farther would get you everything you want instead of in the short term satisfying ur wants and findin that it isn't sufficient for what you want.
