Default Brake light stays on dash

I have a 2007 350z nismo, all factory parts. Its got around 45k miles. Recently I noticed the brake light staying on in the dash after I took off the emergency brake. Its been on for a while now. Does anyone know if the pads have sensors on them, or is there something up with my parking brake? I plan on changing the pads myself, just want to see if anyone knows what causes this light to illuminate.

Thanks!

Low fluid can cause the light to come on.

This happened to me a few months back, just put a bit more brake fluid in the reservoir and it has never come back since.

It first started happening to me if i accelerated quickly it would come on then go away shortly after. But the added fluid seemed to fix the problem. No leaks or anything so I'm not sure what happened.

Hope this works for you.

^ As stated above, check your brake fluid to be sure the level is correct. Let us know if it works out for you.

Check your pads. If they are very low then your brake fluid will be low in the reservoir which on some cars can turn on the brake light. Not sure if the Z is one of them though.

edit: I take long to type

Yea, your pads are probably low. As the piston extends further because of worn pads, the fluid level will drop. Brake fluid normally wouldn't just evaporate. So don't just add fluid without inspecting the pads first, else when you put the new pads on the fluid level will raise back up and overflow out of the cap and make a mess.

Edit: Yes, jmahad you do lol, as i basically re-iterated what you said.

I just checked and my fluid is low. Its 20 degrees out so I havent taken a look at the pads yet, but im guessing theyre going to be pretty worn. Thanks for the advise!

Glad I found this thread. Exact same thing just started happening to my Nismo. Brake light would come on and off while driving and then it just stayed on all the time. My Z has almost the same mileage to, 46k. Anyway just topped off the brake fluid and now brake light problem is gone. Thanks .

This also indicates that the pads are getting low and will need to be replaced shortly

Yeah I'll check them out. Was thinking of upgrading the rotors to some cross drilled StopTechs all around anyway.
