Default Wilwood brake kit question

Looking for conservative upgrade to my 08 brakes.
I'm only going for the FRONTS here...don't plan on tracking car but want a modest upgrade. I'm on a BUDGET too.
Ok...I found a COMPLETE FRONT Wilwood kit (no rotors)..4 pot that will either bolt up to my STOCK rotors (320MM) or I can opt for that set to bolt up to *BREMBO* size rotors (same cost different adaptors). Price is VERY reasonable at around $850 for this kit. My current rotors are in very good shape too. I don't think the pad options would be any different here...but I'm not sure. Any thoughts appreciated.

Talk to Todd at TCE about doing this. He will probably say the same thing as me. Just buy a wilwood factory kit that was properly engineered for the car.

What was the question?

I've got the wilwood 14" 6pot fronts. I like them a lot.

The kit I'm looking at was specifially designed to fit stock rotors or, with an another option,... Brembo rotors. I talked with Revolution Brake..a distibutor of Wilwood. Here was the response:

Thanks for writing.

Yes, this is the correct kit to run with your stock rotors which are actually 320mm according to most rotor manufacturers.

This kit is also available to fit the Brembo Track Brakes option rotors for the Z but you will not be able to use any part of this kit with those rotors should you decide to change in the future, just FYI. And that kit is the same price, just different parts.

For me, the rotors aren't an *issue* since I don't want/need to run 14" or floating rotors.

save up a couple hundred more and you can buy the akebono bbk from the g37 and you'd be getting front and rear calipers plus larger rotors.. i think someone on here priced it out around 1300 for calipers, rotors, pads and adapter brackets.

I got my complete front and rear set off a totaled g37 for $800.. its just a question of looking and being patient for a good deal to come along

Looked at that option...new you're looking at around $1000 each end. Yes..I've seen em on 370Z and G37 go up for sale cheap.

Thing is...It's overkill for me..and 14" Akebonos are Friggin HEAVY! Also pad options are limited.
Key for me is *MODEST* upgrade on fronts only. Stock size front rotors for 08s are pretty good..about same size as Brembos (not as thick). So adding a 4 pot here for $850 seems to meet my needs. I also have an option to use Brembo size rotors for same $ but I need to order that option up front. I can get Centric premium (coated plain) BREMBO size rotors for $67 ea! I've had them before and they're VERY good quality. Here it is:

*BREMBO* size by Centric:

STOCK 06 UP FRONT (Smaller)..HEAVIER?? Looks like it??

Here is Sport Akebono 14"...10Lbs heavier!!!
That's UNSPRUNG ROTATING MASS BRUTHA!

so if these are your performance criteria, why not just get oem brembos? They are much better than the base setup and are clearly going to fit into your budget better.

What is the incentive to run the wilwood setup if you aren't going to use a bigger rotor anyways?

Contact Todd at TCE and get a straight answer. Most of those "kits" that your looking at at just throw together crap.

Wilwood also offers a 13 inch kit, probably your best bet.

Unless you just really want the Wilwood kit just pick up a set of OEM Brembo's with some SS lines and good pads. Loads of pad and rotor options from one end to the other price wise and spares are easily accessible. Also its a "OEM" upgrade so would be a plus the day you go to sell the car and since you have a 08 calipers you could sell those off to someone wanting a small upgrade from the 03-05 and lower your total cost of this ordeal.

They have a 13" rotor to go with the set up..actually it's a *brembo* size listed at 323mm (12.75")..they are cross drilled though and I don't want that. Other wise..same kit.

ROTORS, 323mm diameter, 30mm thick (about 12 3/4" x .1.18") curved vane directional, cross drilled. This kit is $819 without rotors and I can get it for Brembo size and supply PLAIN rotors for $130..which is what I want.

BTW, Tod is asking around $1200 for a kit like this with rotors.

Wilwood factory kits come with a different caliper, start reading, and as i said, talk to Todd and pick his brain before you buy anything.

Thanks guys..appreciate all the help.
I've been rethinking all this.
I can get rebuilt Brembos (from Centric) for $400 for a front set.
No adaptors or special hardware required up front either.
Add *Brembo* size rotors..hoses and pads for around $200 (Rockauto).
$800 or so total. That's pretty much what Wilwood set up would provide me for LESS $ and better pad selection should I choose. So, if I decide to do this modest upgrade, looks like that's the ticket?

i would be weary of buying pieced together kits (unless from a reputable company with good reviews), might end up with some janky shifts in brake bias.
