DO NOT buy anything from JIC USA
I have heard all of these horror stories before regarding JIC. Needless to say, I am not surprised. They are officially off my list.
Most of what I have heard has been stories of missing parts. At least a few people have reported on it. Also reported is conflicting install instructions or no install instructions at all. Hell, one guy posted a long thread here about how to install FLTA2's the right way. Took him weeks to figure it out.
I do trust what Avalon said above. They seem to have great service. I also understand why a company would be reluctant to service gray market products. HOWEVER, buy a good product from a good vendor and you are likely to have headaches. It is not always about price. I will deliberately pay a little more if I know I am working with a good vendor.
To end, JIC has proven that they do not provide the service necessary to satisfy customers. Furthermore, some have reported short product lifespans. Stay away.

Did you pay with a Visa or Mastercard?
People, never buy any expensive items without one of the above credit cards.
If you are not happy with the product and have worked to remedy the situation, call the credit card company. They will send you a form to fill out, where you explain the problem.
They will do a charge back to the vendor. In other words you get your money back. This tactic worked well for me on my wheels.
They put the wrong offset on the front, which gave the car a staggered fitment, it looked aweful. When I asked them to reorder the right ones. They told me no refunds for special orders, they would take them back if I payed a 20% restocking fee. After 2 weeks of arguing with them over the issue, I told them I already called my credit card company and I was now through dealing with them. It took 1 second for him to change his mind, he offered to remedy the entire deal. When he new he could end up with all 4 wheels back instead of just 2. They took care of me!

Curious, did you happen to get spring rate specs for them?
Tanabe list's several coilover models they entend to market for the Z, however just like your saying the SS model doesn't show as a planned furture offering. Shame, like's like a nice product, but specs would be nice.

I would ahve to agree with alot of what is said...while we are a JIC dealer, they can sometimes be frustrating to deal with. We have been blessed in that in the nearly 3 years we have been a dealer (one of their oldest US dealers), we have only had a couple of items have to go back for warranty or replacement parts. Contact and staff changes were usually the culprit.
Who did you initially buy these from? They should have been your first phone call, not JIC directly.

Z1 - I agree we are their largest dealer now in the Nissan markets and have only two issues in the last 1.5 years .All were taken care of quickly.
Clearly the path to least resistance is through an authorized dealer - We then work the issues and insure the cusotmer gets the problem resolved. What people forge tis that every product for everything will have a problem occasionally.
Plus there is the issues of a proper install and set up - proper maintenance and so on. I sent a note to JIC and they have been trying to work the issue.
Again the place the coilovers were bought from should have been call #1 I have been racing on a set for alomist three yyears now and have them on all my cars - never a problem. I think this thread is out of hand now. JIC will work the issue withthe customer.

Paul, while I applaud your effort and your business, it is clear that JIC is inconsistent. If I had to do it all over again, I would have ordered through you. However, JIC USA blatantly lied to me on the phone on several occasions, so it's clear that they don't concern themselves with customer appreciation.
I don't see how this thread is getting out of hand, this is transparency of customer relations.

Its amazing how effective a tool internet forums are for customers..I had a problem a while back with a Stillen product which they refused to rectify..Well after about 2000 people viewed it and numerous lost customers, they changed their position and fixed the problem..If I didnt have access to the internet I would have been "F"ed...

It is painfully obvious to me now that buying the kit through you would be better than direct or through some no-service-added dealer. You seem to be a dealer with integrity. JIC USA views you as an important client so they take care of you. I am just one sale to them and my money has already been spent. It is a very bad attitude, but I have read several other accounts that read just like that. The reason I am taking this to the boards is because I do not like being sh#t on and then told "that is our policy". I don't have to take it. It has been a tremendous amount of work, maybe I watched "Fight Back with David Horowits" one too many times as a kid.
I actually got a response on one of the other forums and I posted the following along with a cut-n paste of John's story:

Note to JIC USA, if you are reading this.
First of all, I mean this with all sincerity. There are way too many people coming forward with bad customer service stories to defend yourself. Instead, why don't you take the time to read them all (I will post links to all the threads) learn from them, take it to heart and make a pledge to do things differently. It is not too late to make things right, and not just for me. It may seem expensive to replace defective merchandise, but in the long run you will make more money from more sales if you take care of people. You could cut your losses by repairing/rebuilding the stuff you get back and selling it as used. ...

You also brought up the possibility that the problem was the install. Let me assure you that I am more than qualified to do the job. If you need I can go into great details.
Because this is the Z crowd, I will tell one story.
The first car I built was a 72 Datsun 510 when I was 17. The block was a L20B 2 liter motor out of a Datsun truck, I used Z flat top pistons, U67 head, Datsun 610 flywheel (This was the only flywheel with six bolts to the crankshaft and still used the smaller/lighter pressure plate), 2000 Roadster pressure plate, Z 5 speed transmission and a low ratio Z rear end. (I had to shorten the driveshaft 6", have it re-balanced, and move the shifter hole back 3"). I removed the mechanical fuel pump and used a junk yard take-off electric pump mounted in the rear by the gas tank. I had a three row radiator core brazed into the stock tanks and had a thermostat bung added to the bottom tank for the electric fan. I put rocker switch with a light in it on the dash so I could see if the radiator fan was kicking on, or I could manually turn it on. All the lights, hazards, turn signal and wiper controls came out of a Z. The stock controls were ***** on the dash and I likes the modern wand controls of the z-car. I completely rewired it and reworked the suspension. The car would chirp 4th gear on the freeway with four people in it (hey, I was 17, stuff like that was cool). The car felt so close to neutral and I figured out that skateboard truck rubbers fit the swaybar connecting rods so the final suspension tuning was done by using different durometer rubbers until it was perfect. That car was sweet. I sold it in 1989 for more than it sold for new in 1972. I could go on more about the car, but those are the high points.

DC5 Denver.
This was not really directed to you. We have seen numberous times were product problems were actuall t the install itself. It is important to the Forum that that side of the equation is taken out of the issue. Although you had a bad situation, we should be fair to the forum members that not every piece that JIC in Japan makes is bad. As stated earlier, a piece will fail. No one has perfected 100% quality yet. So we state the facts and ge tthe problem resolved. It is fair thoughto the dealers of JIC that take cvare of the customers that the priodcut is still top notch. I race on them and my life depends on them as well.
To the Forum members - always buy from an authorized dealer that will stand behind the prroduct and work any warranty issues with you.

It fits up perfectly to the NISMO Resonator Piping...
It would also fit on the stock exhaust...
our price is $419.95 plus shipping. LIst price is $498
In stock ready to ship...
We are a direct dealer with JIC, if we dont have it in stock, we pick it up in 20 minutes...
I would also like to add.....that while I think your experience from a customer service standpoint has been poor, my confidence in JIC's products has not wavered. It began with Paul's (Avalon Racing) voucher for them and his history racing their products on his own car. 12k Miles later (2300 miles the first 2 day) I am more than pleased with the setup and have on many occasions recommended them to folks, Especially if you live in the North East and are lucky enough to be near Paul's crew.
I hope you are able to get things worked out on this, always hate to see fellow car enthusiast feeling shafted. I also agree with what you and most have said......very important to go through a reputable, authorized (keyword) dealer. Even if it means paying a little more.
Chances are, you'll make your money back in ease of service and in the future discounts you'll get becasue you end up being a repeat customer.
just my .02

I would trust their exhaust without concern. That is easy stuff to make. I am now a little hesitant to trust Korean made dampers, especially for a strut type front suspension.

It is not our policy to post in forums since it is our policy that our relationships with customers are private. However, since Todd Shusterman has already posted in numerous forums complaining about our “bad” customer service, there is no more privacy issue.
First, I would like to lay out the facts from our position. Mr. Shusterman contacted us a while back regarding a loose locking nut for a lower bracket. Our policy is, as with any other manufacturer, is to determine if the part in question is a defect on our part. In order to expedite a solution, we had asked Mr. Shusterman to provide pictures of the problems he was facing. No pictures were ever sent. OK fine. As a company we try to stand behind our product so we went ahead and sent him a tested replacement for the locking nut. After 1 month, Mr. Shusterman again contacted us and said that he recently replaced the locking nut. He claims the recently replaced locking nut was again having the same problem. We asked for another picture. Mr. Shusterman could not provide us with any pictures so the only solution was for him to send us the whole damper. Upon inspection, we found a dirty damper covered with some kind of grease inconsistent with our damper materials. Once cleaned off, the body of the damper had some thread-locking compound on the aluminum locking nut. Remember using thread-locking compound on aluminum is not a good idea. It will freeze up the aluminum to metal contact. Upon further inspection our technician found damage to the **** adjustment. We assumed there was some trauma to the **** adjustment since the **** was missing some bearings inside and was not in one piece.
We ended up servicing the entire damper providing a new adjustment **** and a new locking nut. All free of charge. Clearly the above item was not damaged due to a manufacturing defect but from either a road hazard or an incorrect installation. Because of the complexity of our systems we only recommend installation be done by professionals or someone in our dealer network. Again we would like to stress that these coilovers are not your standard gas struts with springs. These coilovers have much more parts with more exotic materials and care and precision must be provided when installing these units.
As a company we have committed ourselves to provide customer service as one of our highest priorities. When Mr. Shusterman’s situation came up we had to determine if this is a manufacturer’s defect or just an isolated incident. The fact that this was the only time we’ve heard of a locking nut loosening repeatedly only points to the fact that this was NOT in fact a manufacturer’s defect. By this we find that we have gone far and beyond normal customer service.
With this reply, we hope that now you will be able to pass your own judgment about our customer service.

I see a lot of words, but no real argument or defense. I am not sure why you keep saying I didn't send photo's, I still have a couple of the e-mails with the files attached 8/29 subject: Problems with my FLTA2 and subject: Problems with my FLTA2 Part 2. I have some more as well, but I am at work and they are on my home computer.
The adjusting **** is perfectly straight and has no marks from damage (I have it in my hand right now). I noticed that it no longer clicked when adjusted and that should be a warrantee issue. Yes, kudos' to JIC for fixing that, thank you, thank you very much.
"Remember using thread-locking compound on aluminum is not a good idea. It will freeze up the aluminum to metal contact". I did try Loctite Blue in a desperate attempt to keep my front wheels from flopping all over the place. The purpose of Loctite is to "freeze up" the contact that is why it is called a thread locker. FYI, Aluminum is metal, did you mean the aluminum to steel contact? Last point on this topic, anodized aluminum is not the same a raw aluminum, in case you were concerned about the chemical reaction or bond of the Loctite to aluminum.
"With this reply, we hope that now you will be able to pass your own judgment about our customer service."
Yes, please do. Also take all the other posts into consideration. Some of the forums have quite a lot of horror stories. It seems MOST people fall into one of two categories. Those without complaints and those who have had to deal with JIC USA with warrantee issues.
I am very happy to see you respond. It shows that we got your attention and perhaps something good will come out of it. I have heard from one person who feels you took care of them yesterday and that may have been because of the press you are getting. It is a start, keep it up.
