Default Budget Coils

Hey all,

I'm in the market for some coils. However as much as I would like too and know that it is best to do I cannot afford at this point in my life some of the nicer coils. I will never be tracking the car, I drive the car maybe 3-4 times a week. I am looking to lower it pretty aggressively, covering maybe a half an inch to an 1inch past the top of the tire in the rear, and close to that in the front. I have looked into the BC coils but have read that they do go that low. I know that Stance is a small amount more and would easily let me go there but the money just isn't there. My budget is at $1,000 for the coils. My car is currently on sportlines and my wheel specs are. 19x9 19x10.5. I have been researching in the picture specific "post your coils here thread", but I'm looking for some more specific answers.

Thanks for all the help, and sorry for posting another, "help me find some cheap coils I won't track thread".

Thanks so much for the help.

John

$1000 for coils, well you will need another $800 in arms to align your car when slammed.

I am aware of this... I already have all the rear stuff, just need a few more things for the front. This is why I put $1000 for the coils. Not $1000 for all my suspension needs.....

probably about $500 in bushings and another $80.00 for an alignment so your not chewing up your tires

LULZ@ people that aren't on budget coils or low!!!

D2's will put you on the ground. If you eyeball the "so you think your z/g is low" thread under the media section, you can see my car (it's right behind Milt...and in winter mode, but it let's you see the slammagation). I don't wanna ***** up your thread. But, I'm on D2 and I scrape on crest in the road. Don't know if you wanna be that low, but you can. In the front, you can LITERALLY put your frame on the ground if you so chose. I wouldn't recommend it, but hey, the kids these days, they is a crazy. And you'll have a couple hundred left over. I don't know how they perform on track duty (heavily anyway) but I can atest to them handling a few slides here and there without issue.

Whoever said BC's won't get you low is full of cocka-dookey. There are a lot of guys on BC that are low. My homie has'em and he's low. He's a girl about it so he won't go any lower, but he sure as heck could. I don't like them on THIS platform because my experience with them on my G wasn't great. Lotta knocks and whatnot. I was low but not as low as the D2's go. But lower than what most people find acceptable. And overall (cuz I've used them on other platforms and still recommend them as a SOLID budget do all coilover system) I still f(&ks with BC.

Stance is, of the "get low but still have function" coils, the best, imo. It can get you internet low but still give you a tackday/cruising car. I know a few guys have them that I've met at various shows, and one of my friends who has, imo, one of the nicest Z's around has them. He drifts his car on occassion and is very low. His aerosync bumper and skirts make him look lower than he ACTUALLY is, but when you're around the 2-3inch mark off the ground, you're really just splitting hairs at that point. And, the biggest thing to remember about them is that Stance will make her dance.

Lastly, look into MDU's. I don't know of anyone with them buuuuuuuut, waaaaaaaaaay back when the whole stance/hellaflush/canibeat/poke/stretch/nofakewheels/yadayadayada movement was taking off, there was a crew out of Texas called Swang-n-Bang. Their cars were pebble pushing low and most of those guys ran MDU coilovers. You can now get those for under $600 bux. Again, I don't know much about them or the company on ebay that sells them, but I did look into the legitamacy of them when I was switching to coils and if it's fake, it's a damn good fake. But, if you google "MDU coilovers for 350Z" the link will pop. If you go to images, you can see some of their cars.

Hope that helps. Good luck in your search. Prepare yourself for the numerous "your car will break, your tires will implode, your driving experience will be content for Final Destination 6" responses.

^ I wouldn't touch the cheap chinese MDU's. However, I am on D2's and can contest that they do slam the car. Please excuse the stock wheels, I just bought the car a month or so ago, and just bought the coils a couple weeks ago, I'm buying wheels soon.

Raceland coilovers are less than $500 and claim to drop 3 inches. They just released them for the 350z so you would be the guinea pig.

Informative.

OP, I would save up a bit more and try to go for Stance. In my opinion they're pretty good quality and for what you're trying to achieve they would suit your needs.

Almost all coils under $1k will be made in China\taiwan ..... Some have quality control and inspections while the cheaper the brand the lesser the control and inspections etc...

Or check the vendor classifieds. There are vendors that can probably give some pretty competitive pricing on a set!
