Default Front brake issue

Hi I have an 04' 350z GT. I bought it used with 65k from a nice guy locally. The car runs great and doesn't have any issues, except one..

I took it to a shop for a general check up and it seems my front brakes have a sort of lip around the edge of the disk. The guy says he's never seen it before and that I should replace the fronts.

Any idea what this could be? If I do need new brakes, can I just beef up the fronts since the rears are fine?

*ok I just found some more info and it seems to be common with Zs. So it looks like I have to replace my front rotors and pads. Any suggestion on a rotor upgrade?

It is common to any cars that use brake calipers.
Take it to a shop that re-surfaces disks. Have them check the rotor thickness first. If the thickness is within the limit, they can just re-surface them. It will be good as new.

Having a small lip around the edge is not a problem. Ceramic disc brake pads (stock on most cars), will cause this to occur if the outer edge of the disc pad is not aligned perfectly to the outer edge of the rotor. I have seen this on the Z and other cars. But if you are concerened about the thickness of the rotor in general, then have it checked. NAPA can do the check and if needed turn the rotors for you.

Thanks so much for the replies. In response to Stuart, I'm much more concerned with performance than looks. I do have a budget though, I can't afford to replace the whole thing with brembos or anything. I can spend about $300 on some replacement rotors?
