Default Akebono BBK - Front Installation issues

Hi Guys,

Need your help and advise regarding this unsolved issue, few pictures better than a long speech

After several assembly / installation of the caliper, check, it remain in a wrong position on the below part which not allow to put the rim, and so the pads are not in line / facing the rotor correctly.

Information and help are more than welcome as I'm now a walker

Not sure if I actually understand your problem. Does the rim not fit over the caliper? If that's the case did you measure the clearance? You may need spacers if that's the case.

The rotors looks too small from your 2nd picture. Did you order the appropriate size for Akebonos?

I think it's a known issue that the track wheels and Akebono's don't play well together. IIRC, the GT wheels have the same issue.

Not sure if I understand the issue......have you tried putting the passenger side on the driver's side and vice versa?

My buddy went with something like honda Accord brakes (huge upgrade from 1 piston to 2) and they were in the wrong position.

If this is a wheel fitment issue.....get bigger wheels? Hahaha hope it helps

The bleeder is facing up, so the correct caliper is on that side. It's an issue with those brakes and particular wheels, plain and simple.

The caliper hit the top of the rim inside with its below part, but fit well on the top, , and not the spoke of the rim.

I guess so... It's a complete BBK, the fact is that the caliper seems to be in a wrong position, so the pads are not in full contact wit the rotor.

Well, it fit well on the top of the caliper, but not on the below part...

When I sustain the caliper by hand, the pads are well aligned with the rotor, but in that case the fixing holes caliper are not in line with the bracket adapter ones and I can't bolt it....

The way you have your adapters mounted looks the same as in this thread:

But, I do see what you mean about the caliper alignment. Where did you buy the adapters?

Yes, it seems the same but not black coated.

This is the complete Akebono kit from CZP.

So far you've described 3 problems:

1. The caliper mounting holes don't line up with the bracket mounting holes.

2. The pads aren't properly contacting the rotor.

3. The barrel of your wheel interferes with the caliper.

If im understanding you correctly, since you can't even mount the caliper to the bracket, there's no way to even be sure if problems 2 and 3 are actually a problem yet. Id take the bracket off and see why the holes aren't lining up to the caliper. Make sure you have it oriented correctly and go from there. I got the kit from coz and it works fine.

Are you trying to put the caliper on top of the moon shaped spacer (so in other words the caliper mount between the bolt head and the spacer)? That would be the wrong way to do it and would explain why you can't mount the caliper to the bracket.

I wonder if others have had this issue (uneven caliper alignment), but never noticed because there was sufficient clearance with the wheels they had.

Thanks for all guys! Anyways, I carefully checked the template profile of the caliper on a cardboard, this kit will not fit my rims in anyway...
For the other issue of pads alignment I don't know.

The problem is that the bottom side of the caliper can't come down far enough to allow the pad to properly square up as it should. You'll notice that edge of the pad "meat" sticks up a good bit above the rotor so you'll have a few mm of unused pad meat right there.

That kit *should* fit an 18" wheel without issue but because that lower caliper ear runs into the lower 350Z spindle, they can't "true" it up properly.

I ran into the same issue. I think the caliper centering up true is another issue depending on who you bought the kit from.

If you go to the track and swap pads, you'll also notice that you have to grind down small chunks of pad material that isn't wearing because it hangs above the rotor. Unless you somehow sorted your pads and put them back in the exact same place.

I've heard of some people hitting the calipers with a grinder so it will clear. I think you want 3mm of room between the caliper and wheel if you end up doing that.

I discovered this right before a track event and was a little PO'ed I couldn't run the brand new racing tread on my 18" wheels but instead had to go with my 19" street wheels tires.

I'm kind of **** so I sold that kit and got something else but the grinder would work fine for you.
