Coilover Collar seized! Ideas?
Whats up fellas and galls
So finally took off the front coilover that was giving me trouble and I still can't seem to get the lock collar to spin (illustrated with green arrows.)
Most likely on Monday I'll take it to a shop that fits these Stance Coils and see what they can do. However I wanted to know what you guys thought about it.
The Problem is that all collars come loose except the lock collar (so I fekkin can't adjust my height.) I have tried almost everything (PB Blast 3 days, breaker bar on my coilover wrench to get more torque on it, screwdriver with hammer, Charizard heat gun (doesn't work well since the collar is aluminum and its at LV10 Charizard), others.
I'm starting to design something for coilover users that might come in handy if it actually is a profitable item So that this problem(s) don't happen.
Appreciate any advice...you guys always rock

Where would the Allen bolt be located!? I checked Stance webpage and asked them for a manual for the 350z and guess what....they sent me the standard adjustment for all coilovers! lol

yea I tried, but nothing. All the others can get loose except the locking collar . Ill look at the coilover a little more and see what I can find maybe there is some hidden secret or prayer I have to do in order to get the 1/4 coilovers to fekking work with me.

Well if the coilovers were set up properly, you should not have to touch that adjustment. But most people don't know how to set coilovers up.

Damn, sounds like a PITA. I hope the thread isn't stripped or the collar isn't catching on something you can't see.

Are you using a vice to secure the body first?
You might try re-installing the assembly and trying to loosen while on the car?
Last resort use an air hammer on the collar...you've already chewed it up so just order a replacement?
Hail mary but, are you sure you're turning it in the correct direction lol...

Liquid wrench, and a small wire brush, scrub the threads above the collar , there is usually a dirt build up. Once removed, the collar will move pretty easy.

The adjustment you are playing with is so set shock travel, not ride height. Once travel is set, it does not need to be changed. I doubt it was set properly, it never is.

I've only been cleaning the rears every spring and I just pressure wash the fronts , but I guess I'll be cleaning the fronts as well from now on during spring.

have you tried heat gunning it? the collars are aluminum right? get it nice and hot and it might be enough to break it loose.
nvm i read you already tried that.

And that's why most peoples coilovers are screwed up. Trust me, lengthen the shock, you have less up travel, shorten the shock, more up travel. Travel should be set to the usable range (where you need it) spring preload is used to set ride height.

Yea plus aluminum requires a lot more heat for it to expand with out it rapidly dissipating that heat to cool down. That's why I had to call back my Charizard...it only knew fire spin....I'll need a Fire Blast out of it to get that thing loose Lmao!

When adjusting the height, do not adjust the height by the spring perch. All height adjustments should be done through the lower mounting bracket. Adjusting the spring perch will change the spring preload and should only be done when corner weighting and balancing the car.
