Default StopTech SS Lines Install?

I've was installing the StopTech SS Lines last night, and I'm disappointed in the installation instructions. There are none. I'm using the instructions from the big brake kit, but they're not all that impressive.

I think Dave Zeckhausen made the install manual. Do you have any more pictures of the proper routing of the lines, Dave? The pictures in the manual are of very poor quality and it's nearly impossible to see how the lines should be routed.

I think I have mine in the proper placement, but when the suspension is fully uncompressed (when the car is on jackstands), the line rubs up against the inboard bolt for the original brake line's distribution block. I think the line will come away when the suspension is compressed and the car is on the ground, but I'm not sure at the moment. I don't want this threaded bolt scratching the plastic coating off of the brake line due to road noise/vibration/harshness.

Otherwise, the lines look great and I'm looking forward to getting the car out on the road and testing them out. Granted, the colorado weather has been horrible lately, so I don't know when the snow will clear enough for me to bed the brakes in. We haven't had dry pavement in well over a week.

last note -- the stock brakes are so disappointing for a 3300 lb car. I really wish I could afford a big brake kit. $4000 is unfortunately out of my price range at the moment.

When dkmura and I installed my lines, we used a different routing than that suggested in the install instructions. As you mention, those instructions are for the big brake kit, which has the banjo bolt connecting to the Stoptech caliper at a slightly different place/angle than it connects to the stock calipers. We ran the brake line between the 2 suspension pieces that the stock lines were connected to and secured it to the inboard suspension piece (rather than wrapping it around the outboard one and securing it there as documented in the big brake kit instructions.) From here, the line was easily wound back to the hard line that comes from the master cylinder. We tested this for strain against full steering lock to both sides, and the line was able to flex appropriately on either side of the bracket that holds it to the suspension.

After 4 track days with this arrangement, there doesn't seem to have been any rubbing or excessive strain put on the line. That doesn't guarantee that there might not be problems down the road, though, so use this at your own risk. Good luck!

Honestly, I doubt you'll find ANY instructions with any ss lines on the market other than ours. Regardless, I talked to my customer service mgr. about this last Friday. We're going to improve the manuals...hopefully this week. Thanks for the feedback, and sorry you had trouble.

I managed to get the install done fairly easily. The brackets that come on the SS lines are not flush mount with the outboard distribution block brackets, but the 12mm nut that holds it in place is torqued down enough that it doesn't matter. The line is no longer anywhere near the threaded bolt on the inboard distribution block bracket, and the lines work great.

Fantastic product, great service. Thanks StopTech.
