Default OEM shocks are gone !

Hi everybody,

My HR came with Megan lowering springs when I bought the car. I'm now in the need of new shocks. My only question is what shocks best suit the Megan lowering springs? I'm trying to avoid "bumpiness" when I'm driving and overall better handling. I'm open to hear anything you have to say about your shocks. Open to any kind of help. Thank you for your time!

David

If I was you I would look to upgrade your springs as well, or search for coilovers. If it's something you know you will do in the future, do it now.

I wanted coilovers (duh) when it came time to lower my Z, but I ended up getting Tanabe GF210s from a buddy for uber cheap, and I liked em. After my OEM shocks went, I was torn between Stance SS and KWs for a mix of low, plus function. So, I went with BC BR for dirt cheap from a gal pal here local.

Deals are great if you can find them

How long have you had the BC BR for ? I think I might go with aftermarket shocks for now and coilovers in the future. I don't have money for decent coilovers at the moment

I put them on in the winter and got to look at them on for about 2 months.

Now they're on, and I don't drive the Z very much, maybe 2k miles? They only had 3k on them when I bought them. I would say they are quality for what I paid. Will I end up getting some stance or similar in the future? probably, do these do the job? For sure. I took the Z on a 3.5 hour (1 way) road trip to the fiancé's parents' house and it's a lot of freeway driving but in Iowa, they build the roads about 100 feet a year so it seems every 100 feet of the road is a different level. I dialed the coils to 12 out of 30 (1 being softest) and the ride was very comfortable. My fiancé even did homework while we cruised. I would recommend them as a budget coilover. I don't know the longevity of them though. They are roughly 1k and can be found cheaper than that through vendors. If I was you and I had to do it again(and not pay for a wedding this year) I would take a line of credit out at your bank and buy some Stance SS. Essentially a loan with lower interest and you can keep borrowing and paying it back and not get hit with too much interest (Compared to a credit card). I spent 1/2 that on basically new coilovers so I couldn't pass it up.

Bilstein B8.

I mention this unit because you mentioned "avoid bumpiness" - reading that as "comfort" (relatively speaking).

Bilstein will give better ride (NOT cruiser soft due to springs and valving of the B8s, don't expect that) but yields better handling and overall less jarring ride.)

I agree with Mic’s advice. Bilstein B8 shocks support a broad range of lowering springs.

I recently installed Bilstein B8 shocks; I am very impressed with the ride comfort and handling improvements.

My kw's are absolutely mind blowing. If you can swing it, you won't regret it
