HAWK HPS issues w/ brembo calipers
firstly........
i hate the brake mess/slop/dust/flem from oem
i am smitten with how clean and lean the HPS's are, even if its only been a few coupla miles......
issues::
fitment of the front pads........ they didnt seat in the caliper housing (well, maybe with a hammer!0 and i had to have them shaved down a little to get them to fit, without jamming them in....
while they were being shaved (i never witnessed how much, unfortunately) i was busy being A.R. and waxing the inside of the wheels (at the dealer is where all this happened)
so now that they fit, i am on my way home, braking and bedding altogether.....
so i try, (dont know why) a reverse brake stop (in a parking lot....) and then it starts...
CLACK
i put it in 1st, and accelerate forward... then apply the brakes again...
CLACK
reverse it, and touch (light or heavy footed, it doesnt matta) the brake pedal
CLACK
not sure if its the Fronts(only), or left side (only) or all......what.......
WTF?? help????
it sounds as if the pads are actually shifting in the cliper body, but how??? there are two alignment rods (as i know everyone knows) that keep these pads in check.... how are they shifting, or twisting??
i am afraid this will lead to something maybe worse, plus, my car only has 300 miles on it, so......
what can i do?? or, what can i expect the dealer to do?? i really dont wanna go back to the oem pads.....(will buy new fronts if there is an install technique that was missed)
please lend me a moment, and let me know your opinion
i bought these pads from mario at www.tirerack.com, and was under the impression they would be great and direct replacements.... (granted, non-oem is just that....non-oem)

if not, then we have an issue not related to that at least....
maybe there's something to adhere to the back of the pads (to bond to the piston)???
arghhh!!!!!!!!!

Maybe too much material was shaved off of the backing plate so now there is a little too much slop? Does it make the clack noise when you do repeated back to back foward stops? or only when you go from foward to reverse? When I installed my Hawk pads they were real tight but I did not have to shave them down to make them fit....I have had 0 issues with these pads so far.

i thought maybe the same.....
they were really tight, if not shaved.... i mean, like, you'd have to tap em in with a hammer kind of tight....... i dont know how they'd work being that tight in the caliper (afraid the piston would wind up jamming them in some how or something.....
and yes.... it clicks (shifts?) when Fwd to Rev and when Rev to Fwd....
heck.... i think i might have wasted a brand new set of pads ......
i am waiting on tire rack to get back to me on their decision on this (they called twice today already, confirming numbers, and getting the story).....
just holding the hawk pads adjacent ot the oem brembo pads shows a difference in size (however slight it is, it still makes it near impossible for the hawk's to fit inside the calipers, with the shims(?) intact......
this stinks.......

how do the hps thickness look now compared to the stock pads?

and bedding them relieves this?? (they werent tight in width, but rather in overall length, as they fit into the caliper.....

I installed the HP+ before running MidOhio and I had to take a rubber mallet to tap them in. There were no issues with the calipers. I bedded them in properly and they are amazing. Don't forget to use the anti-squeal grease when putting the new ones back in.

yeah, the pistons were pushed back into the cali. body...
the area where these pads had fitment issues was not their width, bu the actual length of them (the plate that the pad is bonded to was 0.06 bigger than the brembo plate, making it near impossible to git into the caliper....)

If you get new Hawk pads put a dab of grease on the top and bottom edges of the backing plates where they come in contact with the caliper frame....if you also need to use a rubber mallet to persude the pads to go in it should just take a few taps to work. As stated earlier once you bed the pads in you should have zero problems.

I too had to use a "large adjustment tool" aka mallet to get mine in. Squeaked like heck too ... even with grease and no squeak stuff.
I ended up pulling the plastic like shim off the factory ones and putting that between the piston and pad as was before ... minimal sqeak now.
Did you guys use the little shim thing in front ? Brembos ... yes
