Default removing sways is IMPOSSIBLE?!?! help!!

Hey guys im having a great deal of trouble and i was wondering if i can get some help. Im trying to put on my sways but im having a hell of a time taking off the stock ones. Im working on the front and I was able to take off the endlinks with great difficulty but the bracket screws just wont budge. Ive even used wd-40. Can you guys help me out??

If i cant get them off then ill have to spend an extra $100 for what should have been a relatively easy install.

thanks for the help guys

I had the same problem and had to resort to taking off my jack handle and putting it over the handle of my 1/2" drive wrench to provide enough leverage to remove two of the bolts holding the front brackets on. You'll need two people to do this: one to hold the jack handle and the other to hold the wrench/socket onto the recalcient bolt! Use an impact socket for this one, if you have a set.

Interestingly enough, the FSM suggests that these bolts be torqued to something like 65 ft/lbs. (my memory is a bit hazy on the exact # since this was over a year ago), I suspect that liability concerns had Nissan torquing these puppies to something like 450 ft/lbs or more. Those bolts will NEVER come off if the owner doesn't do any maintenance or upgrading...

I used a 1" dia stainless steel pipe x 16" long sleeved over my 1/2" socket wrench. Those bolts were a ***** to remove!

use a long pipe. get the car as high as you can to give you more room for the pipe. its a pain in the a#$. make sure not to try to remove the 5th middle bolt like i did. duhh.... be carefull threading them in too. i seemed to start another thread on 2 of the bolts. must have started them at a bit of angle or something. had to just keep going though and force it all the way.

If you continue to do mods to you car on your own, you may want to consider investing in a small/medium air compressor and tools. It will pay for itself after just a few mods.
I did it and it saves me a lot of time and money.
It will make all your neigbors think that you're rebuilding you engine.

If the bolts are that tight (stretched) - is it safe to re-use them or should they be replaced?

If you cross threaded them or stripped the heads, then replace them otherwise they should be fine.

Kragen Auto parts
www.kragen.com

This is the compressor that I have and it does a good job.
Its not the best but it did take the bolts off my sway bars and everything else that I've done.

They really are hard at all. The front bar was a piece of cake. Took me about 1/2 hour. The rear was a little bit of a pain but it was because I had to drop a section of my Borla exhaust out to get the bar installed.
On the scale of 1 to 10, it was a 2.
