Hi everyone, I'm new to the 350Z forums and I am looking to buy one very, very soon. I have a lead on a very nice one but it has an auto transmission when I am looking for a manual one. The deal is nice enough to where I am willing to pay for a new transmission, which would also mean I would get to use aftermarket parts and build myself a very nice one. Does anyone have any idea (roughly) what the price range is using new parts and installation time (which I would have to pay for since neither I nor my friends can do it ourselves). Also, if you have any preferences to what you would put into it (part-wise) if you were in my same position.
Thanks a ton and pardon my car-noob-stylings!

yeah... that is a major peice of work...
your looking at maybe $1k or $3k for a transmission,
then you probably need to get the rear differential for a manual (it has different gearing than the auto) at about $500
the pedal assembly is maybe $500
all the other bits and pieces and hardware is maybe another $1k
the custom work to do the swap is in the range of $1k to $3k
there's a guy on the other forum selling parts from wrecked Zs... he'g got just about everything you need http://www.350zmotoring.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=27472
sure... it can be done... but you are better off waiting for one that already has a manual in it...

Even if you end up saving like 3 grand, It may be better to buy a manual in the first place.
Imagine trying to get warranty work on the tranny, when they scan your vin and it says its an auto........
With the falling prices of used Z's, it's not worth it.

Yes, lol, I can imagine the problems with swapping out the entire transmission and it's not exactly something I'm wanting to do, however, the deal I found seems to be worth the extra cash it would cost me to put in a new transmission compared to buying a used already manual one.. I just can't seem to decide.

Just be patient you'll find a good deal with a 6MT. Swapping one out is so costly and totally not worth the time and money when you can simply just buy one stock.
