Oh for the love of Christ (dealer rant, looking at an '06)
Why can't car sales people have even the slightest bit of sense. I totalled my '03 2 or so weeks ago and am looking to replace it with an equivalent '06 model. So we head to the dealership where I bought my '03 scouting for an '06 Redline Enthusiast. Inevitably a salesman comes over with the old song and dance of hey, anything I can help you with. I mention I totalled my '03 and asked if they have any '06's that I could look at to which he replies no, but nothing really changed from '05. I'm kind at this point and reply that in fact there were a number of changes and rattled off something about 300HP, revised internals, revised suspension, new intake. At this point you would think he would realize I knew the car. Nooooo, Jimbo here has to go on and say, well, nothing on the outside that people can see has changed. I then get irritated and see a smile come over my wifes face as she knows this guy is about to have is day ruined. I proceed to rattle off every spec I can think of that has changed on the outside (bi-xenon headlights, LED tail lights, new 5 spoke rims for the Enthusiast and 19/18 combo for the track, larger brakes, revised front grill, revised front air dam, addition of the fillets). He gets a dumbfounded look and says if I need any help just to ask for him. Yeah, I'll be sure I do that.
Aargh, why can't Performance Nissan open up something on the east coast. All I want is a salesman who won't serve up a warm heap of BS. I'll walk in, write you a check, and leave with the car. It's not difficult.

I hadn't even gone to get one. All I wanted to do was sit in it and test drive one to see how the '06 feels. The only reason I bought my last one there was someone how had bought an '03 I knew called the sales person he used and told him we were coming to look at the car. My wife and I arrived, we told him who we were and the just threw us the keys and said bring it back when you're done. This was when the cars were rare as hens teeth. We went back the next weekend and bought it

Yeah, I went and saw that one Friday night but they had already closed. I got a bad taste in my mouth from Victory when I bought my last one as they had $4,995 "Market Adjustment" on every one on the lot. True to their reputation, they had the same thing on all the '06's and even the '05's but this time it was down to $1,895. They were also rather rude when I looked there 2 1/2 years ago acting as if I couldn't possible afford such a car (wouldn't even get the keys to let me look inside). Granted, I wasn't in my finest couture (I'd just come from racing karts), and was driving my wife's old Jetta, but don't automatically rule someone out.
When I get ready I think I'll deal with their internet sales guy, arrange the deal, and just go in with a check and pick it up.

Greetings everyone,
Let my first post in this group say that all salesmen are slime. They would lie to their own Mother (if they had one) Flame away, but I'm an old bunny that was in the auto trade business many years ago and I speak from first-hand knowledge. Commission sales is a dog-eat-dog business, and to be successful means altering your perception of right and wrong. I of course, speak in a generalization, so your relative or good buddy in the business is the exception.
Buying a car is a painful experience, but you put it behind you and enjoy life in your new purchase.
Joe

I'm new to the forum but not that automechanically inclined, so forgive me on that part, BUT I know details when I see details. We (husband and I) are researching for our first Z enthusiast and I can tell you I knew more than the last salesman we spoke with. I had already been to dealership 1 and looked at the '06 but when we went to dealership 2 they didn't have ANY '06's. Our sole purpose was to decide on wheter I wanted a manual or an automatic shift.
Anyway, I kept telling him that the steering wheel auido controls are new on the '06, when he insisted that was a package upgrade?!!? I also told him the console is different and improved (yes, I also mentioned the rear and front lights as well as the grill). He said the 18 inch wheels on the '06 was an upgrade package, too.... whatever...
I guess I should give them some slack because they didn't have an '06 on the lot, but COME ON!! I'm a "girl" and I knew more!!
Oh, for those wondering, I've decided to go with the manual....

"...I've decided to go with the manual...."
Good choice!
"And they are not new either, previous years had them also "
Not true; 03s for sure did not have them on any model and I don't think 04s did either.
And if she was looking at auto tranny 06s, the controls would have been standard.

Nissan is a hot lineup, it's difficult to have a lot of quality salespeople when you barely have enough bodies on a sales floor to handle the traffic. I myself don't know everything about every Nissan, a true enthusiast of a car is hard to match for knowledge. I know I have never just made stuff up about a car I wasn't well read on, I would just tell them I would find out everything they wanted to know and that's what I did. Of course I'm a more laid back kinda guy when it comes to customers. I tend to see more customers bs'ing and making the car buying more difficult than it should be, by being duped and overshopping.

I had the same problem as you and i went to Victory Nissan.. the saleguys. was did not know anything about the cars.. he said the only differnet is the engine and that the older one is faster because of the tq. but he did;nt tell me about the bi-xenon refined interiro and tailights etc.. thats why i got a 2005 instead of an 06.. which i am tyring to put behind me..
I am taking my car back to them to get a few issues fixed.. 05 - have probvmes with oil streak on windows and they scratched my paint when they took off their ugly *** ticker on the back. rattle in the drivers door.. schedule next wed.. hopefuly they can at least fix some ****.
victory nissan are punks.. they go for volumn and not quality.

i can understand what you guys are saying, but if you know everything about the car why does it matter how much they know...
just try to get a good deal and if you dont like it walk.
i could careless how much the dealer knows because i study what im going to buy, i dont need a salesman feeding me the stuff...
as long as i get the car for the price i want im all good..... oh and that $1,895 for market bs... there is no way i would pay that..... i think they use that to play with you...
they will tell you they wont charge you that and give it to you for sticker price, but ofcourse sticker is not invoice so they still make $$$
