The car should be negotiable with the wrong wheels on it.

Actually, thinking about it now, if that car is at Carmax and they're selling it as a Track model, it most likely IS. They run the vin and know the model/options when they take a car in.

I'm pretty sure the VIN doesn't give the trim level.

Yeah, I think it does. I took my FX35 to them last year to see what they would offer and they just plug it in their system and it comes back with trim level and factory options on that car. Don't think it's anything we can decode from out own VIN, though.

Who knows.....I ran the VIN through my VIN decoder and got the following:

J: Japan
N: Nissan
1: Passenger Car
A: VQ35DE, 3498cc, DOHC, M.F.I.
Z3: Nissan 350Z
4: Coupe
E: 6 SRS Air Bag System (Dual Fronts/Seat Sides/Roof Curtains)
5: Check Digit was Verified
3: 2003
T: Oppama
017591: SEQUENTIAL NUMBER

I only have what the Service Dept would have as a parts dealer. Maybe they can pull more info than me.

Yeah, they have a "No Haggle" price listed. I assume that means I can't talk them down even if I can prove the sucker switched the wheels! How much $$$ do those RAYS go for anyway?

You can probably get a set for near $800 but that is besides the point right now. If they want you to pay $26K plus TTL for that 03 then just don't worry about it. Even with the right wheels and nothing being questionable, it still isn't more than $24K. I am sure you can get an 06 Enth model for $28-29K OTD.

Yeah, I got quoted 28,500 for an 06 Silverstone Enthusiast. I will probably do that deal rather than get a used one which I know someone has tinkered with. "If he changed the wheels, what else did he mess with that I don't know about" is my thinking. It's hard to pull the trigger!!

That car is defintely worth getting but not at that price. It never hurts to ask though. If they will let it go for $24K OTD, then have at it. Also, that $28,500 was just a quote. By the time you get there and offer them $28K OTD, you'll probably get it.

rofl, i wish they would have done that when I bought my first "enthusiast" from them. Drove it for about a month before I was 100% sure I was driving a base. Made a few calls and found out it was a friggin base. All is well since I ended up with a 04.5 enthusiast with 7k miles for the same price. As I was running through all the Z's they had available, I found a few more Z's they listed as Enthusiasts but were really base models. I told the Carmax idiots they really should do something about this but they just blew it off like it was no big deal.

I'm going there after work. I am trying to find something online where it lists all the options for the 03 Track. Anyone know of a link?

If I can point this out to them, maybe they will drop the price. If not, their loss, I'll get the NEW 06.

Remaining Warranty: Balance of 3 Years or 36,000 Miles

Does this mean that the warranty is almost up because it is an 03 or that I still have 16,000 miles on the warranty because the mileage is 19K and it comes with 36K Warranty?

Warranty is up at whichever comes first, 36 mo from date of original sale or 36,000 miles. It DOES have a 4 yr/60k miles powertrain warranty, though.
