Default Buying Z out of state

Is there anything I need to be on the look out for? Also, how much is it to ship cars from say Florida to Georgia about 8 hours. Would it be cheaper to go and pick it up? I also found some awesome deals in Cali but that is a LONG ways away!

Yes it's probably cheaper to just get it if it is one state away. Can you get a cheap southwest flight?

Run a carfax on the car's VIN, and that should help. If it's an 03/04 ask about the feathering and all the service that has been done on it.

How many miles does it have and when is it's in-service date? That will tell you how much more warranty you have left.

Don't forget that you will pay an additional titling fee on top of tax and tags since the car is out of state and will need an in-state title. I don't know what GA sales tax is but if it's lower than FL state tax, ask if you can have the GA tax applied instead. I bought a car in Pensacola and they only charged me 5% sales tax when I told them I was registering it in MD. I think the FL sales tax was going to be like 9% (incl locality tax) since they don't have income tax there.

The problem with buying a vehicle from out-of-state and having it shipped to you is you don't really know the condition the vehicle is in. It would be better to see the vehicle in person to complete the sale then arranged for bringing the vehicle back to your home state. You can get a quote from Dependable Auto Shippers to ship the car to you. You're lookking at about $600 for up to 1,000 miles. Here is a website where you can check a VIN for storm related damage for free. You will also have to pay your local state sales tax on your purchase when you register the vehicle (You don't have to pay the out-of-state sales tax).

I picked up my car in Miami. While I don't regret it, the way the dealership handled it was a royal pain in the ****. The car was not ready when I got down there (mind you, I worked a 12 hour overnight shift and hopped on a plane two hours later to be in Miami by 12, so I had been up since about 500PM the previous day), NONE of the paperwork was ready, and they did everything but help me in a timely manner. I was in the dealership for almost seven hours before I finally left and even then, three weeks later they had to call me back because they screwed up paperwork.

Now my dad flew down to Georgia three years ago to buy a Z06 and his experience went flawlessly. Guess it depends on the dealer and the situation.

For me, shipping the Z from Miami to Florida or having a Nissan "driver" deliver it would've cost $700-1000. I flew down and drove it up for about half that... I would suggest you do the same. Eight hours is nothing and by the time you get back, it will be half broken in.

Even if it's new, you're going to want to look at it before you accept it. It's much more difficult to send it back once they've hauled it to you if the car isn't what they claim or something got damaged in shipping no matter how slight. I'd personally, physically look at it first.

My experience is that cars in Cali are always more expensive. I've even seen people in Cali post about buying cars on the East Coast because of it. All the Cali cars I've looked at had $3000-5000 price adjustments on them on top of MSRP, but that was a couple years ago. When I shop around the least expensive cars seem to be in FL or TX.

I live in Florida, purchased an 04' touring from a dealership in Michigan. Even with shipping costs I paid about $2000-3000 less than what they were going for at the time. Took about a month to get the car, not to mention the 6 months looking for the perfect deal, that was the only down fall. It came from SUV country where Z's arent in demand.

i bought my car right outside of NYC and i'm in the South Dakota. I flew out into Laguardia for 180, and that, with all my gas, and rooms ( 2 nights) it was still cheaper than shipping. Plus, it was the trip of a lifetime. I didn't pay for the vehicle til i got there, because if anything had been wrong, i woulda jsut kept the check i had and toured NY ;P but it was great. got a great deal on the z and the lexus dealership was nice. I too saved about 7 grand going this way... they had an 04 in the city by me for 28, and it had like 30k miles. picked this one up with 10k miles, 03, for 20. Worth every penny!!

def shop around and find the best deal for you. and i wouldnt even consider shipping the car for an 8 hour trip. getting a new car like the z, most people would be beggin for that kinda trip just to run around in it and have fun with that kinda car. and an 8 hour trip will fulfill that
