Default Enthusiast vs. Touring

It seems as a lot of people are getting Enthusiasst over touring and I noticed there are more Enthusiast owner than Touring model owner. Why is that? Isn't Enthusiast missing VDC and some other minor stuff like leather seats? Why is Enthusiast so much more popular than touring?

EDIT: Ok..aside from the price differences... (its not a huge difference)

Well, I own a touring. I turn off vdc/tcs 99% of the time when I drive, so I could go without it. I have heated seats that I could go without as well. If I were to buy one brand new I would go for the enthusiast, but I found a touring for an awesome deal and went for it. As far as leather goes, you could always add leather. My friend owns a base but has leather added from the dealership but I wouldn’t get a base because it doesn’t have the viscous?? Slip deferential. Hope that helps more than the last guy. May I suggest in the future you go to nissanusa.com and research because you can answer your own question if you don’t be lazy.

I've done my research and I understand the differences between these two models. I was trying to understand why most of the owners on this board (it seems like) are going with Enthusiast than Touring aside from the price differences. I suppose the majority consider the VDC being useless as the primary reason. :P

Thanks

Wrong. The Touring is most popular.

Looks, engine, drivetrain are same. Only difference is bells & whistles. Many guys don't think leather, heated seats, VDC & Bose are worth extra bucks.

In Cali you probably do not need VDC.

In short, Enthusiast is best bang for buck.

Seems like many people who post here are on the young side, and probably looking to economize. I don't know what the average age of Z owners is, but I would guess that older and somewhat wealthier owners are more likely to buy the Touring model. Those folks aren't necessarily posting here.

'cept for me and a few others of course, trying to represent the Baby Boomer group.

David, do you happen to have a chart of the breakdown in trim lines for the Roadster? My dealer told me that Touring was the most popular trim for both Roadsters and Coupes.

when i bought my Z 2 weeks ago i was debating from enthu. and touring. i wanted touring for leather, butt warmer, bose, and vdc. but then i was thinking and reading post here i realized i didnt need vdc cuz never had it and dont plan to drive crazy, bose i heard sucks, and when i was test drove Z w/ leather on sunny day after the drive my back was all sweaty so i decided to go with enthu. which comes with tcs & 2k cheaper. its basically buyer's choice. i dont even use the steering wheel control since i have manual and the stereo is right there on my finger tips.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm greatly appreciated.

After doing some further research, having VDC is very subjective. I suppose it all comes down whether or not one have the extra money to spend on the extra equipments.

Also consider that the majority of owners on the board have had their Z for a few years. The model lineup was different in '03 than it is today.

Base --> Enthusiast --> Performance --> Touring --> Track

The price gap between Enthusiast and Touring was more than the $3K it is today. For the price difference, the only appreciable difference was the seats. If someone really wanted leather and could forego the heated, powered aspects, this could be added aftermarket for $500-700.
