Enjoyment at a dealership is a big factor. I loved it in England because you get a car, insurance and very often gas paid for. I had an Evo company car at one stage. I have a friend over there who works for BMW and has a Z4 demo car and another mate who has just started with Merc and has a new Black ML 350 demo. You can also take home trade in's which gives a sweetner to the job.
There's no denying you can earn really good money over here, though. Just longer hours.

A base IS350 has about $4500 of mark up, a fully loaded one about $8K. Which is about the range for most of their cars. Average mark-up will be about $5K.
There's about $4K to $5K in a RX350, and in a GX 470, anywhere from $6K to $8K.
But only on a couple models do they get full sticker. Being in a large market means it's competitve, so they discount pretty heavy, especially on the RX's and the ES's. Asking for a discount on the LS460 will get you laughed at.
But all this is academic. Used cars is where all the money is.
And weird. What a stupid rule to have. Oh well, Britain does all kind of weird things.
Well actually you will get a discount on an LS 460 now. Most dealerships have a good amount in inventory.
ES & RX will definitely be discounted heavy. Then again there are times when stock is short and prices will be higher - supply/demand.
Margins will vary depending on what part of the country your in and the build spec.
True - good money in previously enjoyed cars. Although with reconditioning expectations I am sure it will get harder.
