Default Help pricing a 350...what would you pay?

Considering buying a 350z that a local dealer just received in on trade:

2003 Touring Package
White
6MT
36k miles
light Grey-ish leather interior

The front "mud guards" have been taken off and are getting repainted due to some scratches according to the sales guy

1-owner lady driven (she leased it, and then bought it at the end of the lease)....she just traded it in on a Saturn Sky I believe.

Anyways, what do you guys think its worth? I dont NEED the car, and I usually dont buy one unless I can drive it for 7-10 months and get my money back (or maybe even make a little )

thanks for the help!

Just left the dealership. They werent really giving me the "eager to sell a car" vibe, but whatever.

The lowest he said was $19,400 + tax, tag and a 399.99 ******** fee

I laughed and left...but I told him that if he'd like to sell it call me back with a realistic price.

We all know damn well that they probably only gave that lady that traded it in about 15.5 or 16 on trade.

well thats fairly low miles for an 03, i wouldn't say that price is ridiculously high but its not a deal, if you could get it within the 18's i would say go for it. you still have 24k of power train warranty to get your tranny replaced when it starts to grind.

true. about the tranny...what gear(s) would I first start to notice the grind?
does it plague all 03's or is it random? thanks for the help!!

I'd pay about $15-17k for it.. Is this a mom and pop dealership? Or a brand name dealer?

Because for example, where I got my z.. They have a 45day turn around time that if they can't sell the car within those days of the trade-in, then they would wholesale the used car or let it go $2-3k cheaper..

It's a HUGE dealership. Hummer/Caddilac/Saturn all in one

I dont know if they'll sell it within 45 days or not. It's kind of a guessing game b/c we have a Nissan dealership right down the road, and I would say that 95% of the people that visit their dealership(hummer/cadillac/saturn) arent looking for a manual transmission coupe....the only thing about it is that its also online

UPDATE:

Ok, they just called me back and said $18,800 (+t/t/t)
Which is $19,832 out the door

How should I respond. Just tell them what my bottom dollar OTD price is and just see if they can do it or not?

Please help

So, they've basically dropped $1200 overnight by you simply walking away. I still wouldn't bite. Nothing has changed, it's still a 5 model year old car at this point and they need to sell it WAY more than you need to buy it.

As someone else mentioned, they probably only gave $15-ish (if that) on trade, there's still plenty of money left on the table at $18.8k asking price.

Trade-in value is about $15K, $15.5K. I would peg a reasonable retail price right around $17K - $17.5. Maybe $18K since the miles are so low, but no more than that. Miles or not, the car is 5 years old.

And just shift through the gears. If it has the tranny issue, you'll notice it no problem.

Edit...just tell them you will do it for $18.5K OTD, no bullsh1t $399 fee. When they scream and yell, say "Thank you, have a nice day. If you change your mind, call me."

Ok so lets assume they gave her 15.5 in on trade. Then they had it detailed and the front mud guards repainted, so lets just say they have $200 in that.

so 15.7 + $1,500 profit (which seems pretty fair to me) = $17,200 x 3%(nc sales tax) = $17,716

even if you add the 399.99 ******** doc fee thats still only $18,070 OTD

Now thats what I'm talkin' about. And maybe I can get it for that, I guess its just all about my tactic.

What ya'll think???

I think you should tell them what you are willing to pay ($18,250 OTD just for a figure), and tell them when they feel like selling a car, to call you.

Of course, the $15.5K is what the car is worth in trade-in, not neccesarily what they put in it. They might have put more in it.

you obviously have time to waste, why not start this game with other dealers too , see who is willing to come down the most.

Im not sure what you meant by that, but no other (local) dealers have similar equipped year/mileage 350's. The only thing the Nissan dealership has is new stuff or older base models. The smaller lots have high mileage auto's for the most part....but thanks for the idea
