Default Looking at buying a used 350Z

Hi all,

I'm looking at buying an '06 hardtop 350Z 6MT and I was wondering if there are any specific questions I should ask the seller? I know one should be about oil consumption but I was wondering if there were any other trouble spots. I was considering an older year but according to consumer reports they don't rate as well. Consumer reports gave the 03 an average (white circle), 04 below average (half black), 05 average, and 06 above average (half red). I also wonder if these reliability ratings are accurate as per the average experiences from people on the boards?

Thanks

Welcome. I see little point in asking the seller questions because you will probably get bull like “The car is only driven to and from church on Sunday and never over 50 MPH.”

The owner may have records of routine maintenance. Drive the car. If you like it buy it.

I disagree. Asking is always a good idea. If you ask, you may get the straight answer but if you don't, it's very likely no one will volunteer the information especially if there is an issue. Statistically, A LOT more people don't have a problem with conveniently ommiting the truth but will tell the truth if asked a direct question. Also, if they lie and you have sufficient evidence that suggest that the seller knew of the problem and did not disclose the info, you have law on your side. You can tell a lot by body language as well if someone is lying about something significant. Some people wear it on their sleeeve while others can hide it well. It will probably not be worth the trouble to go as far as legal action but it will not hurt to have law on your side. It also provides for a very strong bargaining chip at the table if you have to go back to the seller and have them take care of the problem. In MA at least, if you're a seller, you're on the hook for 30 days, IIRC, after the deal is finalized.

All I see is benefits in asking. I can't think of any negatives.
