Lien on a used Z
Do you guys know if the dealrship can sell you a car that has a previous lien on it?...
I talked to the dealrship and I told him that carfax is showing that there is lien on it, and he told me that he can not sell me a car that has a lien on it and that it was lien free.... just said that carfax hasn't been updated....
Any info on this???....

Pink slip tells me that that car is free of liens?....
I'm trying purchase a Z from the US... just wanna cover my ***...
Would any regirsties in the US if I'd call them be able to tell me that it is or is not free of liens, if I was to pay them....

In the US, for vehicles, the hard copy title *in hand* trumps another person's claim, unless you know of the claim. That's why banks have their liens recorded on the face of the title -- so that you can't claim ignorance.
You, sir, have created a bit of a conundrum. You are now aware of a claim to the title that you otherwise would not have known of if you just looked at the clean recorded title. You _may_ be ok with relying on the clean title, but if you want to be _absolutely_ certain you _should_ get some sort of evidence that the bank has released its lien. This is all governed by the law of the applicable state, so the rules change slightly from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.
Now, all that said, I don't see how the dealer can get clean title to the car without the bank being paid off, so take that as you will.

right on thx for the info guys.... I have the lien number thru carfax, I need to find out how I could check into it...
The dealr told me that he guarantees the title is clean, and he is willing to put that on the bill of sale...
???

This is what probable happened. A person sold the car to the dealer as a trade in.Dealer paid off last lein whne trade in accured.The dealership probable just got the car.When the dealership paid the car off.It takes awhile for all funds to clear banks 7 to 14 days usual.THEN carfax would have to update once title changed hands.If your buying the car from a rep dealer.NISSAN,Chevy EXT you should be covered just don't do it at a buy here pay here.

Title can't be transfered with a lien, so it's got to be clear unless the dealer had the lien on the car. It will say on the title as well.
