Default Is a very high mileage '03 more trouble than its worth?

I'm looking an purchasing an '03 with 79,000. The price is right, but I've heard '03's have had a variety of issues, coupled with no warranty at this point. The overall condition of the car however looks great, and I plan to have it inspected first. Supposing everything goes well is it a safe bet?

Buy it, buy a built engine, give APS a call, you're set.

IMO, I'd never buy anything above the 50-60k mark.

Going on 104k miles here and I haven't had any major issues

Tranny replaced about 60k miles ago.

79k is very high mileage? I'd consider 100k the half way mark for a well maintained car. 68k on my '03, about to throw some juice at it.

J/K: I agree with the other guy if the price is phenomenal and you plan on modding the car. Absolutely, I say buy it! I speak from first hand experience, there is nothing better than a built engine with 15+ pounds of boost!!!

71k on my supercharged 03, original clutch and tranny holding strong and virtually no issues with the car at all. As long as the car has been well maintained go for it! (and mine is for sale too! lol, im just looking to free up some money and get into something more practical as a daily driver).

what CSF said.

i've seen Evo's, STi's, WRX's, and Z's that are beat at 30-50,000 miles because the owners punished them, drove them hard(not a bad thing), and didn't take care of them.

on the flip side, there are plenty of those same cars nearing 80-90,000 miles on forums that have had virtually no problems, other than basic wear and tear.

personally, i would be worried buying any sport compact that has more than 50k on it. The cars aren't super expensive to begin with, so you never know if a numbskull owned it before you, or if it was someone who truly cared for the car.

if they have all service and maintenance receipts(I keep all mine), and there is documented proof the car at least got its regular service, and the car fax comes back clean........i see no problems....

77000 miles on a 03 Z here but it Still has Nissan warranty till DEC 09 ... Tranny was replaced around 60K ... car was driven on I95 highway all it's life by previous owner so everything is in really tip top shape ....

I say , if you think the car has been taken care of then go for it.. 03 Zs with 80k mile , you can get a really good deal if you're good with haggling price.

Good luck
