Default Assume This Is A Poor Offer?

i've emailed with my local Nissan dealer, who happens to be in Vincennes, IN. asked him if he could find me a Red 350Z, and he obliged. he says he's found one that stickers for $32,280 and he could sell it to me for $31,200. personally, knocking $1,000 off the sticker on a $30,000+ car doesnt seem like much of a deal to me.

am i right or wrong Z folks? and if i am right, can anyone offer a means to get this dealer to come down?

Mike

Make sure to go to Edmunds.com and spec out the options you want on their website. They'll give you a good idea how much you should be paying. I know the red cost around $500 extra but I think you should be able to do better than $31.2k.

Also don't be afraid to get dealer quotes from places on the other side of town, or even out of town. If you're uncomfortable with the prices the dealers around your area are giving you, expanding your search area might give you better luck. You can then use that price to negotiate with dealers closer to you.

There are a lot of car-buying tips on the web (Edmunds is a good start), make sure you do your research.

I know this may mean nothing now, but I got my 05 enthusiast, new for 26900 before title and taxes. I ended up paying around 32000 after finances also. I bought it at a very low interest.

Nogaro red and AT add to the price, but you should be able to get a new enthusiast for no more than 29000 + taxes, title tags

Yes. Find the 350Z that you want. Figure the maximum that you are willing to pay. Visit the dealer and make an offer.

Priced on edmunds is as follows .... first price is the invoice, second is msrp, and third is the market value (what others pay) from edmunds.com

I added the normal options that dealers put on the Z's so you can adjust those if they are not on the car. Generally I have seen a lot of the guys go in and get the car for $500 over the invoice of the car+ options which would put you at about $30,500. Honestly I wouldnt go higher than that. Just remember to haggle over the price of the car, and not the monthly payment.

National Base Price $30,820 $28,553 $29,305
Nogaro Red $500 $433 $466
Painted Splash Guards (4 Piece) $160 $120 $140
Aluminum Kick Plate $110 $78 $94
Carpeted Floor Mats $95 $69 $82
Cargo Convenience Package $80 $53 $66
Carpeted Trunk Mat $70 $54 $62
Destination Charge $625 $625 $625
Total with Options $32,460 $29,985 $31,219

Sonicspeed gave you some very good information and advice.

Maybe bend the dealers fingers back until he says "I give"?
You have to let them know you have other options that you will take, either another car from another dealer or that you are willing to walk away if you don't get the price that is reasonable to you. Very simple. If you waffle, they know that you are hooked on that particular car.
Let them call you if they change their mind. Good luck.

Walk in give a price, a phone # they can reach you and the car you are interested in. Walk out, tell them you have 3 other nissan dealers to visit and your time is valuable.

It works every time. But you actually have to price out another Z at a different dealer. Know how long its been sitting and how many they have in stock and the amount it costs them to keep the car will outweigh selling it to you with a discount, also do not get any aftermarket undercoating or BS like that all these cars have it already.

i am going over to the dealer in Vincennes this friday night. going to sit in one of the 350Zs they have, take it for a test drive, and see what i think.

assume i will just tell the salesman i will "Think About It" and walk out. then perhaps send him an email and tell him something like you guys have recommended. perhaps make a low offer, see what he says.

the only other thing i have to add here is that the red 350Z is a dealer trade, he doesnt have it in stock.

Doesnt matter if he has it in stock or not. Dont let them use that as leverage because as much as they are helping out by trading stock, they do it all the time, and youare doing them a favor by buying a car from them.

Yesterday I was quoted $27,900 for an 08 Enthusiast... add the $500 for the nogaro red, and that should give you an idea of what you should offer them.

FYI... the dealer I talked to said they are selling the Z's for super cheap now because the more Z's they can sell the more GTR's Nissan will give to their dealership, so the store manager has dropped the prices on the Z.

Good Luck!
