Default Thinking about buying an 03 Z

i'm looking at this 03 Z track edition it has about 60000 miles and i notice that the differential is coated with rust and the part of the axle that is bolted into the differential and the exhaust system is pretty rusty too. is this normal or a sign of a serious problem. the car runs great and everything works i just want someone else's input on it. your input would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Welcome. Corrosion on the undercarriage? How does it compare to vehicles with similar mileage?

Possible flood damage? Pass on this one.

id pass man, i just bought an 03 with 67000 miles and mine has minimal rust on the undercarriage, does the state where the car is get a lot of snow? the rock salt they put down is most likely the culprit for the rust if so

Is the car local - I am guessing from your location it is exposed to the salty, humid air coming off the gulf. That might explain a bit more rust on the exposed bare metal. If you wipe the rust with a rag sprayed with WD-40, and if the rust easily wipes off then it is just surface corrision. As always, if you are seriously interested in the car make the time for a mechanic to look it over, and check it out with a Carfax report.

edit: On second thought, if your to be "The Rice Maker", then does the rust really matter?

A lot of things can be taken care of, but serious rust can't.

Definitely. He might be lucky and it's only surface. Check it over thoroughly. But as David suggests check other Z's out.

You really should take the car to a good mechanic & have him check it out.
