You don't have to pay tax if you buy a privatly owned used car thats about 2k off the price of a new car everyone seemd to be ignoring.

you still have to go to a notary and pay tax on the sale of a used car. It isnt 2 grand but it is almost 1 grand.

i would expect to be able to get 27k if i shopped carefully and patiently for a NEW enthusiast. of course that's around 29k OTD so i personally would consider a used one for 26.5 if that's OTD. and probably i would definitely buy it for 25.5 or 26. too bad you live across the country from me.

Part it down and sell it back to the dealer. That's what I'm doing with my car. It was a damn shame to have to dis-assemble such a good machine.

There's just a flood of used Zs on the market right now, for whatever reason. I don't mind so much taking an L on the resale. Let it be the dealer's problem, since I don't expect they'd be able to move it too quickly either.

They gave me a verbal agreement of $20k. I figure they'll sell it for about $23k, if at all. I'm still parting the thing out; it takes a while.

Did you sell the radar yet? Also I agree with the previous post I bought a new 03' for $26,900 but if I were you I would stay firm for a little while longer. You might get lucky.

I think it depends on the state. That's definitely NOT true in WA. Here in WA, the buyer has to pay the state sales tax on a used car to the state in order to register it. The value is based on how much he paid for it. You can't under report it either because if it's too far below the real value of the car, you could get screwed.

$28K was definitely WAY too high for a used 03. I paid $28496 for a new 04 Enthusiast auto before tax, title and license. That's w/all options except side air bags, liquid aluminum paint, and aero kit.

On Conceyted's note... nope, not here in WA. The seller pays no tax on the sale of a used car. I know this as I sold a used car to a private party at the beginning of 02.

Hmm, I didn't say the seller paid any tax, if I wrote it wrong I meant to say the buyer payed taxes on the ammount he buys it for.

Looking at your sig, I see you put a lot of time and money into your Z. Would you mind if I asked why? (I'm actually in the process of buying one.)

I normally don't pay much attention, because I realize a lot of people get a car like the Z then realize too late that it's not practical enough. However, in your case I'd guess you knew what you were doing since you liked it enough to start spending the big bucks on mods.

Why I put a lot of time into it or why am I selling it?

I'm selling to get a TT Supra. The Z to me was actually pretty practical; the only qualm I had was the lack of a back seat. I would've preferred a 2+2. Even then, that's not my problem, that's my friends' problem.

Taking the loss isn't so horrible either. I mean hell, at least I can drive & enjoy my Z; I couldn't drive Siebel Systems or any of those damned Janus mutual funds. The car is essentially my only indulgence, and the reason I even show up to work every day.
