I went to another dealer and test drove an 05 with 27k, touring 6 speed, and they wanted 20k. After talking to a salesman I calculated that it wouldn't cost too much more to finance a new base 370 (05 is a little too old). The salesman said he could find me one for 30k. I also did additional research and found out that travelling out of my area (North Jersey, right outside NYC), new base Zs can be purchased for 28,800 to 29,500k. When the dealer contacts me tomorrow I am going to see if the 30k is negotiable and I am going to show him the internet ads for these 28-29k Zs. Hopefully something will come of this, as financing a new car will provide me with a lower interest rate and a comparable monthly payment to a used Z in the low 20k range.
You went from a $21,000 to $30,000 budget? That's quite a jump.

You're right on the money as usual, davidv. Financing is a slippery slope. When people think of things on a monthly-payment basis, that's where the problems start. "But it's only $75 a month more!"

its not a big jump when your looking at very different interest rates. Turns out the guy decided his golf clubs couldn't fit in the trunk of the car. Picking it up tomorrow morning. 20k out the door, including 36k extended warranty.

The car wasn't worth more than $17000 in today's market. The fact that it sold at that price reflects the truth that there are in fact people dumber than you. Don't feel so bad.

i paid 20k otd, including extended warranty. For an 07 with 13k miles, thats a good deal. Apparently it's not great according to a lot of people on these forums, but it was by far the best deal I have found in the past month living right outside NYC. Can't wait to park it in the driveway
