Default Good price to pay for an 03, 04, enthusiast

Hi all, been shopping around for a few months and was wondering what a good and fair price to pay for a 03 or 04 6spd enthusiast model is? I checked kbb private party values and every car I find has an asking price of several thousand above that (like more than your average bumped up for haggling price). I'm surprised to see so many people asking 15k for 03 models.

According to kbb an 03 enthusiast should be around 13k and an 04 around 14k.

I did find a touring edition recently that's an 03 model with 40k miles for 14700 asking price. Good price or no?

I guess I just need to know what a realist price range I should look for for 03 and 04 model enthusiast edition cars. I am going to check out that touring model I mentioned tho.

With '06 models with similar mileage for only about $2-2.5k more now I wouldn't pay more than $13.5k for an 03-04.

So you're saying an '06 can be had for around 15.5k?

Welcome. Don’t be put off by an advertised price. Decide what you are wiling to pay. Visit the seller and make your offer.

Ok, so I'll shoot for 13.5 at the absolute highest. Here is a quick c&p of all the 350z listings for my immediate area:

2003 Nissan 350Z For Sale - $14700 - http://bham.craigslist.org/cto/1239326247.html

2006 Nissan 350Z - $20500 - http://bham.craigslist.org/cto/1225262672.html

2003 Nissan 350Z - $15000 - http://bham.craigslist.org/cto/1213354780.html

2003 Nissan 350z - $13500 - http://bham.craigslist.org/ctd/1212282249.html

2003 Nissan 350Z Nizmo - $15000 - http://gadsden.craigslist.org/cto/1254364835.html

2003 NISSAN 350Z FAIRLADY - $17500 - http://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/1244530035.html

2003 Nissan 350z - $13000 - http://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/1240661394.html

2005 Nissan 350Z Ultra Yellow Metallic - $21000 - http://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/1226659039.html

As you can see it seems like everyone is asking a good bit more than kbb private party value.

Offer them the amount you are willing to pay...the worst thing they can say is "no"

A 2003 for $17500?!?!? what a rip. Zach, many of those cars seem to be a bit overpriced. Like mentioned above, I'd look for an '03 in the 13k range - no more. My advice to you, keep looking and be PATIENT. The right car will come around for you.

Then kindly tell him that's way too high, and offer again. It's all part of selling cars.

Buyer: "I'll give you $13,500 for the car."

Seller: "No, sorry. $14,200 is the lowest I can take" (even though he may be willing to go lower, he has to try and get as much as possible first.)

Well I will make an offer but I need to look at the car first. Hopefully I can check it out this week sometime.

Correct. KBB does NOT reflect “asking” prices. Some sellers are reasonable. Others think that are living in the land of OZ. What's the saying?

Money talks. Bull shiit walks.

Thats a mistake. You will not get a deal on the phone. There is no money on a telephone.

I didn't make him an offer or anything. I only asked him what he wanted for the car. When I go look at it in person will be when I make an official offer. Thing is tho I don't have 13k in cash so it's not like I'm going to be able to throw down a stack of 100's on the hood.

Well I'm going to look at that one I called about tomorrow. I saw he lowered his asking price to 13,900.

Aside from that, I've come across quite a few more that are made out of gold...

2004 Nissan 350Z TOURING - $18796: http://mobile.craigslist.org/ctd/1272749706.html

2004 Nissan 350Z - $16588: http://huntsville.craigslist.org/ctd/1262285228.html

But those are from dealers so I'm not surprised.

Here's one where the asking price is getting a little closer to reality, but it's still a little high for the mileage IMO:

dont tell them you dont have cash. negotiate the offer first, then, when you get the price where you want it, you can tell them about how you would like to pay (even if it means you need financing). how you are going to pay is none of their business until a deal has been agreed upon

same with trade ins. if you have a car you intend to trade in, tell them you are keeping it. after you've negotiated the cost of the car you want, *then* you can mention you would like to trade in your car, and negotiate a trade in value for that.

they are slimy bastards and will play with numbers on you if you give them the opportunity.. financing + trade ins make numbers easy to mess with

not really...and that's some bad advice right there imo.
with your above examples i don't see any saleman going out of their way to help you. "oh wait, i had a change of heart, now i'd like to trade my car in"....righhhhhhhhht. and btw they know you don't have cash when you walk in the door.

i do agree alot of em are slimy bastads but you just have to know how to handle them.
