Default Need advice on buying a restored roadster

Hey guys...I am looking for a commuter car...to work, gym etc....

Found a 2006 Black on Black roadster....
Automatic(yes it is..thats what i wanted.
Brand new tires
74K miles
Interior is 9.5 out of 10
Exterior paint is mint...rock chips etc in the front though.

Salvage title...

I have made a deal at 10K...what do you think?

I plan to keep it for 4-5 Years...so I am not worried about resale..if I get 5K for it in 5 years I would be a happy camper.

The kid is 19 years old has owned it for 7 months..with school starting he wants to get a cheaper car and put the rest towards school.

Should I go for it...?

what caused the salvaged title exactly???

if you can find out from him how it was hit, etc.......then inspect accordingling....

look for weld repairs, look for missing oem rubber undercoating, etc..

if you are really serious, you can take it to a body shop that has laser point alignment and have them shoot the car and see how TWEAKED it is?

etc, etc...etc..

I have a track Z......been considering buying a roadster or another coupe to daily drive and a salvage title wouldn't bother me either so long as i knew what happened and inspected it properly..

Some members buy a salvage Z and get 100,000 problem free miles. Others would not touch salvage with a 10 foot pole.

Remember how a vehicle gets a salvage title. Say a $20,000 Z is in an accident with $11,000 damage. Vehicle is "beyond economical repair" and declared a loss. The vehicle is sold at auction with a salvage title.

Does the new owner put $11,000 into the car to get it back on the road? Generally no. The new owner cuts corners with used parts and DIY labor.

You get what you pay for.

How about the price?

If all is good?should I go for it?

Should I get a inspection done or should I just drive it and do visual inspection?

I have had a 350z before so I think I would know if something is terribly wrong...

And thanks for the contribution to my thread.

It's hard to tell but I don't think it's necessarily a good deal, with Z's going for much cheaper these day's you're better off spending an extra $2-3k to get a car with a clean title and history.

06 roadsters in good shape go for 17k or more.
Check the car out.. restraint systems are the expensive part in declaring salvage.

Having that inspection done is probably the smartest money you've ever spent!

One of my biggest concerns re. buying a salvage title is whether the airbag was replaced in the event it deployed. Airbags are very expensive and sometimes they are not replaced to cut costs.

Did you go with the roadster or coupe or none of the above?

It gets salvage title if it is titled back to the insurance company no matter the damage cost. I bought one that a tree limb fell on. Softtop and cage were busted, windshield cracked, driver side front fender dented...etc. No major damage so I bought it. After damage the prevoius owner just didnt want it anymore so ins co bought it instead of fixing it. While it will hurt resale if I ever sell it I still got a good deal. 2005 roadster 36k miles for $9000. 3000 in parts and body work it is like new.
