Price too good to be true...
Just a heads up to people shopping around..
So my girlfriend is looking for a new car, RSX or civic , around that price range (we're university students). Then she sent me this and was like OMG I CAN GET A 350z !
http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Nissan/35...o/19_4063890_/
I emailed the person for her just to see what's up, perhaps a salvage title or what not and this is the reply i got:
Hi,
First of all I want to thank you for your interest in my car:2007 Nissan 350Z Fully Loaded .The car is still available,I sell it at this price because i just finished the divorce with my husband. When the divorce has finished i own this car,the problem is that I had to move in United States to start a new life here. Now as a women i don't need it. This car is in excellent working conditions, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions,ONLY 59.320 km, is always garaged and rarely used, is registered in Canada and it has clear title .From the beginning you have to know that for the payment I request ONLY secure pay, I prefer the payment to be done using eBay Motors Shipping Company services so both of us can be protected. The final price that I want for this car is $9,300 CAD( including shipping and handling).
I will wait your answer(if you are interested to buy) very soon!
Thank you
Selena Thompson
So this is more of a warning to people out there, which my gf obviously had no experience in
If a price is WAYY lower than the market value of the car (and no problems) - - - - it's a scam
If the person is somewhere and the car is somewhere else - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - it's a scam
If the sale has to do with a divorce - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - it's a scam
If the seller offers to pay for shipping - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - it's a scam
if the sale looks like it's too good to be true.... THEN IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE
(of course there are the occasional legit people in these scenarios, but as a buyer, why take the risk?)
* feel free to post other ways to identify a scam
Edit: btw, the market value for an '07 with 50,XXX km (31,XXXmiles) on it is about $25k in canada.. the prices are much higher here than the states
<<<UPDATE>>> (added to OP for easier reading)
ME:
Is that car currently in Brantford or with you in the United States?
"HER":
Hi again,
I am glad that you are really interested in my car.
As I already said in my first email the car is currently located in United States(Miami,FL) but still registered in Canada, so you won't have to pay any custom fees. For a major safety and insurance for this transaction we will use a eBay Motors Shipping Company which also manages the payment. Here's how it works:
-You will give me your full name, address and phone number
-I will open the case id to the eBay Motors company
-You will need to deposit only 29% from price to eBay Motors Company
-You will receive along whit the car the bill of sale and the bill of lading, title and keys
- You will have 7 days to inspect the car, if you will lake the car , you will keep if not you will received the money back all the money and the car will be ship back in the same day. After you receive this info, you will have to make the payment to one of their agents so I can be sure that you are serious about buying and I am not shipping the car for nothing. The agent will keep the money in a trust fund until you receive the car and are satisfied with it.If the car is not exactly as described, you can send it back at my expense, and get a full refund of your payment. If everything checks out and you decide to keep it, you will pay the rest of the money to the eBay Motors company. If you wish to go on, please mail me back with your full name, phone number and shipping address so I can open the deal .I will appreciate an answer as soon as possible. Also, feel free to ask me any question you may have
Thank you for the great collaboration!

On CL the easiest way to tell if something is a scam outside the price is that they use those pictures and integrate their email into them. Not quite sure why they do that, but they do.

Update:
I decided to follow along with it so the community can see what a scammer looks like first hand

One of the easiest ways to tell a scam in my experience is if someone who supposedly speaks the English language is using horrible grammar, writes run-on sentences that make no sense, and has major spelling errors. I once tried to sell a bass guitar on craigslist, and some lady who said she lived on Long Island wanted me to ship the guitar to her son in Nigeria lol. A lot of these scams are coming out of Nigeria and other African Countries...
